i've been on 880 both during the good and bad times but never on a long enough stretch to say it is bad bad... when it is bad, it is bad... especially hayward area... but i've been on 405 and as once said, it is one of the largest parking lots in the world.... from 101 south till the 73/55/i-5 junction...

I haven't been to LA in a while I can't remember how bad the 405 was. I'm sure its bad because LA traffic is horrible. But I say 880 is so bad because the road itself is uneven and I've gotten two flats from pot holes on that POS. Not to mention the amount of trucks that weave all over the road.

Thumbs down 880

I drive it every day from Sj to San Leandro..... It is not bad if you leave early it takes me about 40 min. from south San Jose. And it takes me about an hour to get home..... But 880 sucks, and watch out for the Chp

880 from hayward to berkeley sucks too... real pain in the *** drive with narrow sections, undulations, and potholes galore like mentioned...

drove my recent maxima thru there once and it wasn't too pleasant....

Bottom line...I avoid the 880 anytime/everytime if I can.
Narrow lanes, big rids, chewed up uneven pavement, morons that got their license from a cracker-jack box. Oh yea, forgot traffic jams...lol

Well, _the_ 405 is always ridiculously crowded. However, the 880 is slightly less crowded, but the road feels like it was paved by a drunken lowest bidder.

Pick your poison.

In the paper today the Sacramento (whoo hoo!!) contractor was saying the new section should be complete by 5/24. Maybe that will keep the cars moving in the bay.
