Got the weekend off.where's the beach?

I moved from San Diego to San Jose over a year ago, and I'm getting the first weekend off in about a year. That means I don't have to work either day!!!

Anyway...being from San Diego, it was always nice to lay out on the beach get a tan, and relax for part of the day. Where's a good beach to do that up here? I'm trying to keep away from santa cruz, as I've heard nothing but bad things about it. Thanks!

IMO we don't really have beaches like San Diego. Instead of Santa Cruz, you could try Capitola. There's a bit of the pickup scene there at the restaurants and bars, if you feel the need to flirt.

I'd take a drive through Tomales (sp?) Bay and down Point Reyes. There's tons of beaches on either side. At the very tip, there's a lighthouse with some pretty amazing scenery if you like to take pictures. I'm not sure if it's the right time of the year, but there's a plant that grows on the rocks that turns them red. You can get great shots of pounding surf, blue sky, and the red rocks.

It's a bit of a drive and always seems longer on the way home, but I think the surf and sky is worth it. It's too cold and there's nasty riptides, so don't expect to go into the water at the beaches there.

Have a wonderful weekend off. I'd kill for one of those.

I say Carmel.... I love that beach its always sunny there but the water is cold, sun make up for it. plus you can walk around town. I go there almost every weekend during the summer. or you can try SeaCliff good spot to bbq with friends.

The sand at Carmel feels softer/finer to me then a lot of the other beaches in Nor Cal.

you're not going to find anything remotely close to san diego beaches up here. that said, carmel would you best bet but that's at least an hour away.
