If you have that car in your avatar, I doubt you really need to clay the car.

Kragen sells only Mother's, and that makes me worried about how good/bad it is.

Anyone know of any spots? I've used search and come up with nothing of substance.

No... not the same car as my avatar. The car LOOKS great. I just don't like rough paint. I did some claybar last night with Mother's and it's working out well... but the whole bar is saturated with red paint overspray... so I need more.

Ah. Got it. Good choice. I just clayed my 03 sedan too. I used the soapy wash water as lube. Worked great. Faster too.

I "think" you can. Maybe not the Mequire's bar but other makes. You probably have to buy them online.

Zaino comes with two bars, both for less than $17.

Whatever works for you. I personally wouldn't use dawn. Using a polish for your car already strips the wax from the paint so it's not needed for me. If it's powerful enough to remove swirls it will strip the wax right off.

maybe zaino recommends dawn because their products hides the swirls not remove them (z2 and z5) It is a sythetic sealant. Trying showering with dawn soap.. I don't think you'll feel good after you're all dried up. Imagine the plastics on the car. Dawn doesn't recommend it on their website either.

I agree, Z-7 mix with only 12oz of water is slick enough for the clay.

Both the detailer and clean, soapy water work just fine. I use Zaino's clay bar, and if a detailer were necessary, they would've included one.

From ZainoStore.com:
I recommend you use my car wash (Z-7) as a lubricant for the ClayBar. Just make sure to keep the surface area lubricated while using the ClayBar. Use 1/2 capful of Z-7 Car Wash to 12 ounces of water. I use a spray bottle for the mix. Shake it up and spray the area to be Clayed. Just make sure to keep the surface area lubricated while using the ClayBar.

I would definitely recommend you remove the wax buildup on your paint. Just use Liquid Dawn (hand dishwashing liquid) as a car wash. It has a high alkaline content which cuts right thru carnauba wax, paraffin, silicone oils, etc. This will get your paint finish squeeky clean and wax free.

From http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-clay.html:
Q4. Is it better to use soapy water or a spray lubricant?
A4. Both work equally well. If you want to do the job fast, use a bucket of soapy water. If you want to work inside or do a thorough job, use a spray lubricant. With a spray lubricant you can wipe down each panel as you go and feel for areas you missed.

Meeting up with ZainoDetailer tonight (for real this time)...

Buying the kit, a couple extra claybars, leather conditioner/cleaner, and their clear coat finish.

There are a lot of mixed reviews on those threads. You did get me started thinking about dish soap drying rubber/plastic parts. Is there a good car wash soap out there that doesn't have built-in wax? Some guy said to use alcohol to strip the old wax. I want to remove as much of the old wax as possible before clay barring and polishing. I don't understand how the clay bar and polish will strip old wax. Are polishes basically abrasives? I have AIO polish (not Zaino) , but I switched over to Zaino Z2/5.

And I never understood why Zaino's Z2 and Z5 are "polishes". Then what is their version of a wax? When I used AIO, I applied two coats of Ultimate wax on top of the polish. But with Zaino, I end wish the polish.

Clay is basicly an abrasive. The clay rides on a layer of lube until it encounters a bump. On every pass, it shears that "bump" down until it's gone.

Hey guys,
My 2 cents... Any quick detailer will work with the clay bars. If you are using it... use as small a piece as you can to get even pressure on the paint surface. The reason being IF you drop it THROW IT OUT. It will be tempting to pick out the dirt and reuse... DONT! Second is that use a spray bottle with a 50/50 mix of water and alcohol between coats to remove dust/residue from wiping off wax.

I just bought the entire Zaino line from ZainoDealer... literally.

He's a real nice guy, knows his stuff, and I'd recommend buying Zaino product from him. He doesn't just sell it and leave, he'll take the time to talk you through the steps
