Of course you could always just get off at St Stephens just to get back on at Acalanes. The on ramp is worth it.

Just my .02 in avoiding 24 all together though it's backtracking to WC.
You could go 80 to Pinole/Hercules, take 4 east toward Martinez, to 680 south (SJ) through Concord to WC.
More miles/gas/time, but no rocks/chips, etc and avoid Lafayette. I here you on that one Gillian
Be careful on the 4 in the beginning especially by golf course if anyone chooses that way.
