I think the purpose of the work that was done was to make it more "earthquake friendly". But why do all that work when they're building a whole new bridge right next to it?

I saw this morning on Channel 4 about why the old section is being replaced.

They replaced it because it's going to be used (part of connection) for the new twin bridge.

^^ well the whole new bridge wont be open for public use until 2013

^^^and bridge toll probably be around $10 by that year

Cool snaps...defenitely a rare sight to see no traffic on the Bay bridge, except back in 89
