Rent me a torque wrench?
Rent me a torque wrench?
Hello! Just got the Motordyne Plenum spacer, but I am having a hard time finding a Inch-Lb torque wrench for installation. Autozone only carries the ft-lb. Does anyone have one for me to borrow? I'll pay you $15? If not, can someone recommend me a place in the bay area to rent one? Thanks!
P.S. I'm in San Jose, thanks!

Hah! I'm in the same boat. I have the Motordyne MREV2 and the 5/16" plenum spacer to install..think I might just go the Harbor Freight route since who knows when I'll need an in/lb torque wrench again. Sears does have an in/lb. one listed on their website. Maybe we can hook up and do a 2 for 1 install...
There must be an online store you can order one from that'll be relatively cheap. I came across a Canadian site after a quick Google search that sells an inch-lb wrench for $37 CDN; I'd be willing to bet there are sites in the US that'll sell one even cheaper.

Not sure if your Motordyne kit came with it, but don't forget to use a little blue (temporary) loctite when you're putting everything back together. It's been reported on this board that the bolts sometimes have a tendency to come loose over time. That's the reason why I had to do mine a second time around. Of course my dumb as* didn't use loctite even after the second time, so I'll probably "rent" the wrench from Sears again and make sure its done right this time.
I've bought regular open ended wrenches and misc. items from Harbor Frieght before and they're decent and hold up well enough considering I don't wrench on my car that often. But I dunno about buying a precise instrument like an in/lb torque wrench from them. The bolts can snap VERY easily if overtorqued.
Honestly I'd just buy and keep the Craftsman one from Sears if I could think of one other instance I'd use the damn thing in my entire life aside from this plenum spacer, but I can't. For me, I'll keep "renting" it.

I just did the hand tighten wearing a leather michael jackson glove. (as also described in the instuctions from motordyne). I've checked them once so far and so far so good.
I'll be checking a 3rd time before I call it a done deal. I DID use the loctite on all bolts up top.
