I think they would look sick powdercoated black with a polished lip. They'll look like aftermarket rims at fraction of the cost.

Dooooooo itttttttt, Jeff!!!

I'm not sure but can you powdercoat a one piece rim and still be able to polish the lip? I thought they had to do the whole rim unless you could take them apart (2-piece, 3-piece wheel).

Anyways...full black FTW. Murdered out

F what the haters say. It's your car. Do what pleases you. After all, you're the one that's gonna see it every day. Unless, you are specifically going for the "murdered out" look, I think the all black wheels on an OB would be overkill. Just my honest opinion.

good choice of words "overkill". is it possible though to powdercoat a 1-piece rim with polished lip? i would think it would be harder, yeah, but not impossible.

I don't know much about powdercoating/polishing wheels, but at the very least, couldn't a shop, such as Wheel Techniques, polish out the lips, then tape them up and spray/powdercoat the spokes gloss black.

All of the above would look good with OB. You can pull off alot of different looks IMO. If you look at Rudys, he left them stock and just added spacers...it really made a big improvement (especially cause he's dropped on coilovers).

When I got my 18s coated, they told me it had to be the whole rim. I too asked about the polished lip as I was considering it. They might have just told me they couldn't do it because they just don't do those types of mods to rims...so I'm not sure. I know the process involves electrically charging the metal to get the powder to stick, then they bake it. I guess its possible to mask the area off?

You can definately paint them but powdercoating is alot more durable than paint...but it does add some weight, if that matters

Trying to powdercoat just the center piece and not the lip on a 1 piece rim is difficult, they usually have to mask off the lip and even then you may get overspray.

I sent you the link to the place I am taking mine to next Monday

I say this on the forums all the time and it's just my personal opinion... the black on black thing is played out, even with a polished lip. Sure, it'll look great but I went with polished rims on my OB Coupe. If figured if I have an all black car with tints and everything, and I'm spending a ton of money on wheels and tires, why not set the car OFF with a nice set of polished wheels. I just don't like the whole black wheels on a black car thing anymore...

That said, if you're keeping the stock Rays and these are the choices, I'd do the polished lip and black face 100%... they could always spray the whole rim black and then polish it afterwards to clean it up... you're going to have to get rid of the stock coating anyways.
