Because it's glass, fiber optic is usually routed underground. For someone to have access to the cable itself, the person had to have gotten into the boxes.

i dont even know what that means....but there ya go!
That means it's far from a simple crimp fix... they're basically going to have to meld the cables back together, and doing it on the spot like that is much harder to do. The tiniest spec of dust getting in the way can screw things up really bad, turning what is already going to take a couple hours even longer. But I'm sure they have the procedure down to a better science since the last time I spoke with any of the technicians and engineers at ATT.

I can't imagine what would happen if you had a major emergency today.
Grace, if you're having issues with Verizon and it happens frequently give them a call and ask, "WTF going on?" With so many options we shouldn't be paying for poor service. I haven't had any issues here in SoCal....

They're speculating that it was due to the union negotiations that broke down. Of course, the union is denying everything.
The line was cut and then they went down further and cut it again.

Gary: ~ Att since 2000-ish and haven't had any problems except for around my home which is located directly behind a large hill.

That's exactly what I was thinking too. Disgruntled employee is one thing, but this act was pretty major. I wonder what the real motive was. Sounds like a big heist out of a movie or something.

Maybe Comcast did it so they have 'another' excuse to raise my cable rates again, but they cut the wrong lines lol...

+1 for calling your phone company! Call and complain about NO service if you can't get a signal- they should be willing to pro-rate the days you're out of service for such an inconvenience.. make it sound legit, like your business depends on your phone and now you're losing money b'c of no service!

F*ck that... you should not need any reason to get your money's worth. If the service was down, that's their fault and you need to get compensated.

Drop them and switch to a different company if they don't compensate you... people don't care and so the companies don't care either. In an economy like this, they need to keep all the customers they have. They lost money to sign you on, and now they need to keep you to see any sort of profit.
