Dude, I drove back home today.. I lost count after 20 CHP's I saw on the freeways! I saw maybe 10+ around LA, another 6+ or so throughout the I-5, bout 2 around the freeway from I-5 to Gilroy area, and no idea how many I saw on 101 =X
I was going 70-75mph the whole time on I-5 to avoid getting pulled over. 65-70 on 101 too like a good citizen
I ditched a Gilroy cop though I think he heard my exhaust
The fool flipped a beezy and tried to get behind me so I took a street, gunned it to Wal-mart, parked my car and went into the Wal-Mart in Gilroy.. I could see him driving slowly around the parking lot and he even stopped by my car ..waited like 15 mins, he left and I jetted out back to 101
-whew- ... why is it that it's OK for motorcyles to make INSANE amounts of noise, but a louder exhaust on a car? oh hell no... what's up with that?

There is no testing in place for motorcycles dB limits. They can still be cited for being too loud. It's officer's discretions. H/A's, Top Hatters, Mongols, Ghost Mountain Riders, and other motorcycle "clubs" (heavy emphasis on the " "), hate it when we stop them for it.

John, I believe it is 95 decibels. That is what my HKS set-up is rated at. At least when it was new.

and chippie...if you were to get pulled over going 85-90 mph.....

would they let you go because your a cop?!? my guess is, its the cops option...but i would guess you wouldnt get a ticket.....you guys gotta look out for each other.

Really depends on the cop..some will be 'cool' about it and let you go, others who are very much by-the-book will cite you b'c you're suppose to be setting the example .

I took my chances like everyone else. There are certain agencies that don't give a sh*t. You're getting a ticket no matter what. Certain CHP offices (G-town as we call it) will write other agencies, chippies, firefighters, corrections, D/A's, etc. I can't tell you how many cops I have stopped. Probably almost every day. There are quite a few cops sitting in county jail. Point is, not everyone goes away empty handed.

As far as the dbA limit:

27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor
vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted
by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance
with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits
established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with
Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an
exhaust system so modified.
(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor
vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less
than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or
less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers
Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle
exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to,
nonoriginal exhaust equipment.

I'm on vacation anyhow. Besides, I either lecture or ticket, but never both.

I5 for me with years of BA to LA and back....75-80. 80+ you'll get nailed eventually. 85+ seen so often ~15- 30min later those drivers pulled over on shoulder with additional 'company' and not b/c they're broke down lol. Seen that sooo many times in my travels on that route. Not worth shaving ~ 1hr off to get there. Just my 02.

I remember on Cinqo de Mayo, I spotted a DD swerving around 101 ,doing less then 35-40MPH on the fast lane ,he even nicked the center divide
Needless to say, I kept my distance and was talking to CHP dispatch the whole time giving location updates ,
