Tahoe + Lowered Car = ?

Ladies and Gents,

I'm a SoCal native and have only been to Tahoe once in the winter. It was obvious to me then that going to Tahoe in a very lowered G would be suicide, especially with the massive amounts of snow and ice there.

However, it is now summer time and July 4th weekend approaches; are any of you familiar enough with the drive to Tahoe from SF/Berkeley area to be confident that it's possible? I.e. no ridiculous bumps/dips/similar ominous road conditions.

Please let me know. I'm not fully 100% going, but I'm leaving it up to a few friends to try and convince me.

Highway 80 has some pretty bad chain damage. Most people drive in the left lane instead of the right because of the vibrations. I don't know if being lowered will be as much of a problem as the sound and feeling of the road.

I will tell you to be careful of the speed bumps outside the casinos. Even going in at an angle and stupidly slow, I scraped my underbody last year.

Thanks for the info, Gillian.

I'm not much of a gambler, so I don't think I'll be worrying about those speed bumps.

Please, chime in if you know something!

*Edit* Oops, forgot to ask -- how lame are the cops on the way there and back? I'd probably be leaving either tomorrow or Saturday and coming home early Sunday.

LOL, I knew you'd find this thread!

Of course I'm from SoCal, and hell NO I do not say that lame word.

I am without a doubt behind in [summer] school. But still being able to study and ladies on July 4th weekend can't be passed up.

If it were me Kev I'd just rent a car for the weekend. If you are going with friends one of them could drive right?

It's too late for that, now. I'm pretty sure rates would be pretty high if I just go in and expect to get a car tomorrow. Also, I don't think I'm old enough to rent a car... don't you have to be 25? It's also July 4th weekend...

kev, i made the drive last weekend up to Reno which follows basically the same path. you'll be fine heading up there, but, as Gillian mentioned, there is a lot of road vibration at times.

its nice to drive you own car (and show off), but if you're really worried just rent a car.

North Beach is pretty speed bump free. South Beach has a ton by the casinos, and they're all off the main Tahoe drag. Which part of Tahoe you going to?

Lol, go to SoCal and ask that question to people our age; I promise you they'll make it known fairly quickly.

Thanks for the info. If I go at all, it will be tomorrow morning. I'm not too worried, just the normal amount of concern for a lowered car.

Haha, for the front, it wouldn't be too difficult... for the rear, I'd have to take off the shock body and add the locking collar I took out.

Perfect; north part, apparently.

Haha, if I do, I'll post what it was like in this thread.

Thanks, everyone!
