Re: Audio Installers?
Everybody swears by Audiophile and I can attest to their quality of work too. However I wouldn't buy electronics from them and rather bring my own.
I mean 650$ for a pair of 6.5" Focal Plexiglass Components. Kmon, Internet sells them at 260$.

Re: Audio Installers?
I'll check out Automobile in Oakland.
It seems like every shop charges $75/hr and wants 12-16 hours of work to put 4 speakers, amp, and a sub in the G35. I am getting quotes from $750-1600 for labor alone.
It makes me want to do it all myself, except I don't have the time.

Re: Audio Installers?
LOL, all I'm having done is a simple 4 speaker install with an Ipod adapter (PAC AIS-NIS) and an amp. I also wanted to dynamat the doors. It seems like a simple job. I don't know why they need 16 hours. It's not like they are rebuilding a transmission or and engine.
SoundInnovations quoted me $1200 labor for 16 hours labor
Monney quoted me $750 for 8 hours
Caracoustics is $1600 labor for 16 hours
Audiomobile said $300 for 6-8 hours
Why such difference in price?

Re: Audio Installers?
You will get what you pay for with Sound Innovations. They've done three of my cars so far... and I wouldn't let anyone else touch my car... especially with the G35. Ernie from SI has been in buisness for a long time, and chooses to keep the shop relatively small to ensure a high level of quality in his installation. He does not pressure you in doing any kind of installation and tries to work around your budget. But like I said... you get what pay for with SI.
BELIEVE ME when I say this... for installation... don't sell yourself short. Custom audio installation is a form of art... you wouldn't trust a 16 year old mechanic on the G35, no way should that differ on stereo installation. A careless installer can do more harm then good. While you might leave the shop thinking they've done a great job, little do you know on how the acutal installation went.
My first experience with car installation was with my Honda Accord and Prelude... both of which was installed at AMS car stereo on Stevens Creek. While I thought the installation there was high-quality, little that I know that it was a hack shop when it comes to installation. When I had a new alarm installed from Sound Innovations, they spent more time cleaning up my old wires than installing a new one.
I've also had experience with the original Audiomobile in San Jose (no longer in existenece) Installation was decent, but I got ripped off by the original owner when he built me a box for the sub, and went out of buisness right after I paid him the full amount for a custom installation. $500 down the drain =)
With your current budget, I would advise the following. Either do a little more research on this forum, and conduct the installation on your own. Or save more money, and have Sound Innovations do the install the first time around.
Just my two cents...
They've done these projects for me in the past:
