Tech said my car has a "Leaking Spring"?

I left my car at the shop tues for brake and rotor work and other stuff this week. Got a call today. Tech who did multi-point inspection said that my rear driver spring has a leak. He didn't or couldn't explain so that I could understand.

Does anyone here know what it is? leaking air or fluid? and how is the problem usually caused?

Without seeing the spring itself, anyone who knows what the tech speak is about, how much does it normally cost to fix something like this? what will it involve.

My face when I heard "My tech said Leaking Spring"

Spring is metal bro, unless your in molten level heat, its staying solid.

Shocks have fluid in them, thats prob what he was talking about. But he had no idea they are called Shocks. What type of "shop" did you drop it off at, No name Garage? I would not trust them with a repair.

Did the tech check the muffler fluid level?

Sounds more like the tech 'broke' a spring.....in his brain lol.

I'd seriously go elsewhere for service. Please share so we don't end up there.

Agreed with all the comments above. Springs are solid pieces of coiled metal - they simply do not leak. A shock will have fluid inside, but the two components are lightyears apart and any tech should know the difference otherwise I'd GTFO of there before they do more harm than good to my car.

What/where is this place so we can avoid it?

If you plan on staying there, ask them to put winter air in your tires and to make sure they use a left-handed wrench when working on the flux capacitor.

rear springs cant leak, but your struts/shock can, struts/shocks I believe are filled with gas, so yes they leak fluid.

Struts are either Fluid, or Gas. They don't leak their opposites.

thanks all for the replies. Yes I thought it was whack too when he said my springs were leaking. I assumed he meant either the contact points of the suspension settup or he meant struts.

Guess what, when I met him today to ask him to show me what he's talking about, he had the car lifted and showed me a trail of what looked like grease or fluid coming down the top of the strut.

He then said it wouldn't b a safety problem but something to be aware of that needs attention in the near future. ( Call me cynical but looks like an attempt to sell another repair order). He asks another person to assess the level of "damage" on a scale of 1-10. After shifting back and forth the other sale manager said the safety risk is about a 6-7.

This is Beshoff Infiniti and the words "spring leak" were by Richie, probably because he couldn't find another word at the time.

I don't fault him but it scared me to think what the heck he was talking about since I also know springs are solid but I know that struts are sometimes filled with air or fluid.

Where would anyone who has responded recommend a newbie go for brake and strut work now...since I still need some work done. Appreciate any recommendation I can get.

Thanks everyone.

Yes. Some weird things have been going on there lately. The detailers scratched my roof and wheel in April (this was before I learned Brian was gone from there). And now this. I've had work done as far as Burlingame so far.

Please recommend anywhere there's Good service. At this point I need a good shop for detail, paint, brake work, struts. Doesn't have to all be the same shop, as always some shops do a better job at one thing than the other.

Z Car Garage of North First Street do very good work and at a very reasonable price Rob is the man. The specialize in Z's & G's and a couple of workers there drive G's.

After I got my car from getting detailed there I also noticed a ding and scratch on my rear door. Unfortanly I noticed it a few days after SO I can't say I'm am 100% sure they did it. But I do know I did not have the ding there before.

just curious where do you go now to get service? one person reco Z-Garage and I will try them next but have you found another place to get things done?

in my situation i knew it was beshoff bec i left the car there for the detail. I inspected the car right in the service bay and saw the damage. i was on the verge of suing them but i didn't want to make a big deal (even though i was disappointed and mad). the best Richey could muster was a free re-detail and close to half off my front and rear brake job. that was nice of him but the damage was done. my feelings for beshoff died that day.

goes to show how 1 person can make such a big difference and without his presence things are never the same.
