Moving to San Jose in August...
Hey guys I'm moving from Missouri to San Jose and I'm contemplating bringing my G35 with me. It's in the for sale section at the moment but I haven't gotten a lot of interest. It may be because I live in the middle of nowhere (Springfield, MO) but I have a few questions for any San Jose veterans:
If i were to drive my car and try to sell it there, do you feel like there would be a bigger population that would consider buying it?
I have megan test pipes on my car, I know i need cats to pass inspection but are there any other laws in Cali I need to be aware of?
Most importantly... gas prices here are around $3.15 right now... whats it like there?
Lastly, any good suggestions for apartments in the area? My girlfriend is going to school at University of California and I would love a duplex or nice apartment complex so that if I do keep the G35 i can feel safe with it.

yes, alot of people would be highly interested in your g depending on mileage. honestly, ca is pretty chill when it comes to regulations. gas is high here. about 395 for premium right now. theres gonna probably be a good apartment in every city, but a one place that is safe and nice is the san ramon area. but then again you should look at emryville which is 5 mins away from uc berkely. hope that helps!

Damn your so lucky. I wish I could go back to San Jose. I miss living there. Anyhoo....depending of course of your salary range and budget but for me I liked living by Mt. View. Reason being..if I want to go to the Asian markets in South San Jose, I wasn't that far for shopping and good food. If I wanted to spend time in San Francisco, I wasn't that far off either. I normally would use 280 the back way since it's a nicer scenic drive and less traffic at times. If wanted to go to Santa Cruz/Monterey, still not that far. So in my own choice living there for a while, Mt. View was the place for me. There's always good and bad parts in the Bay Area, you'll just have to do some research like your doing now. One thing I can only say about the Law Enforcement in CaLi; each Officer has it's own interpretation to some car regulations/modifications so at times if your one of those stupid ones that ruin it for people that modded their cars and did stupid stuff on the road, you will be profiled as such. So Good Luck and like I said..damn your so lucky. P.S. I've been to Springfield, MO.....nice town.
Thanks for the recommendations guys ill take a look at those places you mentioned. Im still on the fence about taking my car or not but we'll see i guess. And yeah spfld, mo is a nice little place... haha small world

Depending on your budget, I would only recommend living in Berkeley if you have a garage just for your car. Lot's of pot holes there.
Emeryville's damn expensive, but like I said, depends on your budget. I live at a decently priced apartment complex in Union City right across from the BART station. It's nice, clean, & quiet.
San Jose's a bit far from UC Berkeley so might be pricey to drive back and forth to visit your girl.

Avalon:

The Verandas is cheaper but a little bit older than the Avalon.

you don't have to live directly next to BART, a little bit further away will probably get you a cheaper place that's more to what you're looking for. I only chose this place because I commute to SF on the train everyday
what are you trying to do? what is the reason for moving? job transfer? school? and depends on which part of the bay you want to be in, there are lots of good places to stay, but there should be some rent/ shock as rent and housing prices are a lot higher here.
also you should bring your g here, they are worth more, not sure how much more compared to the hassle and shipping costs, but even if you check kbb and edmunds the g should ring up higher, thanks why a lot of people in cali try to buy cars out of stat since it is cheaper.
they are right car scene is huge you may want to keep you g,
one thing is that if you do sell it it will need the cats on it for it to pass smog for the sale, even if the buyer signed a paper saying they are responsible for it, I have seen court cases where the seller still loses and it ultimatly is still up to them to take care of smog,
hope it helps.
and welcome to the bay.(soon)
