Auto Shifter question

Can anyone tell me if the center metal band can be removed from the shifter and if so how.

Pic of one I located on the web.

If nobody knows. From what I can see. It looks to be completely seperated from the leather around it, so it's possible that it can be removed. It's either glued on or screwed on. You could try inserting a flat head and slowly pry on it to see if it moves a little.

I'm assuming it won't look pretty when its removed.

cough, so how bout that porsche

Thanks, not worried how pretty it will look as I have a another shifter with a better metal center piece and want to switch it over as my stock leather has worn off mine. Trying to get the best pieces off each shifter and make one good one lol

Hey Paul
That piece is removable. It's glued in and has some tabs in the middle along the top curve and bottom inside edge IIRC. I took mine out (wood trim) using a small screwdriver, starting from the bottom and prying it gently. After I was able to get the glue to break free, I just used my hand to pull off the piece. If it's like the wood grain piece I removed, it should be plastic underneath with the metal wrapped on top of it.

Hope that makes sense. I'll try to get a pic up of the piece removed sometime today

Thanks Chris, it so happens that what I thought were scratches on the one I purchased was actually dirt so I just swapped shifters out and all is good once again.

Thanks for all the info though
