Why Am I Paying Extra for something I NEVER received?

I paid my vehicle renewal online on Dec 16. $166.

Month later still nothing in the mail. I emailed DMV. DMV said my renewal was completed and sent and if I needed a new sticker it would be another $18.

If I lost my sticker I have no problem with this scenario. But I NEVER received it and now I hve to pay extra just to get something I should have received in the first place. What the heck? What's up with this?

I have lived in this nice neighborhood for 16 yrs. My mail is never late or lost, so why now and why is it the renewal sticker?

Mail gets lost sometimes, it happens. It has nothing to do with where you live, not sure what this has to do with your situation

Non the less, I do find it absurd that DMV is forcing you to pay another fee to replace what you never received that they are responsible to make happen. You paid, you should get what they owe you. If the post office lost your mail, DMV should be charging them to replace your registration.

I recently had to call the DMV regarding my registration sticker as well.
I paid it right away and did the smog n all. Paid in late nov and should have received the sticker already but haven't. Usually it takes a couple weeks so I started to wonder. Called them up, you will get the stupid recording, I got fed up and just said "talk to real person" somehow that worked and was put on hold waiting for the next actual person to answer. The guy was nice, looked up all my info and it showed I paid all and everything was taken care of on my end. He mentioned they sent it out in dec 15th or so. I told him I never got it in the mail, so he filled out some paper work over the phone for me and said, " ok it will be sent out tomorrow."
They should not make you pay the $18. I may have gotten lucky, but just doesn't make sense making you pay again.....

Interesting. I will call the phone number. The gave me that option or an office visit. I think it's just bogus that I have to pay anymore than what I'm required to.

I pay mine at the AAA office and pick my tags up there, that way they never get lost.

The OP doesn't say where he/she is .. CA or FL or ?? Could be different DMV's in different states have different policies ...

But I agree .. I don't think one should have to pay (again) for registration sticker.

Good Luck ..

btw .. If you have proof that you paid .. just keep that in your glove compartment (if the need arises, all you need to let them (if anyone asks) that you're waiting for your reg-tag to arrive in the mail .. of course if it's a few months .. that excuse may not work.

I will never pay online for Cali DMV again. I thought because I was so busy I might as well do online and avoid the crazy office. But reality taught me a lesson. I never deposit cash or checks into any ATM, should've stuck to that policy with DMV and show up in person next time. I plan to print the DMV email and keep it in my car for now. Gonna call Monday and get a resolution to this.

Problem solved! Called DMV. Said would take 2-3 weeks to mail me another sticker (yeah, like I'm gonna go that route again) or go to local office. He made an appointment for me and got my sticker this morning, no extra fees. Finally.
