Oil Change Help

Anyone free this weekend to help me out with an oil change? I've seen a few DIY videos here and there, but I'd definitely feel a lot more secure if someone could get me through it all. We could probably get lunch afterward if you'd like. Send me a PM. I'm located in South San Jose.

i just did mine yesterday on my 05 coupe during lunch, its not that hard it will take you more time to open the bottom panel and get to the filter then it will to do the actual oil change.

if you do it on your own, i would invest some money on ramps, if you are not lowered and don't have front lip you can drive up to it easily and do the oil change.

Will definitely keep the option to ramps open for the future. The main reason I'd like someone to help me out is because I don't have any jacks or ramps over at my place. Oh and my car is stock height. That and also I'm not very experienced when it comes to working on cars.. Anyone still up for the task?

Best advice is to not over torque the drain plug, and not double gasket the filter. Both can be costly mistakes

Bro... you don't have the jack that comes in with the car for changing tires? jack up the car on the passenger side. make sure it goes as high and possible so you can get enough clearance to crawl under.

^^^ That is a TERRIBLE idea. If you value your life at all you do not crawl under a car supported by the jack that comes with for changing tires. In fact, you don't crawl under any car unless it's PROPERLY supported by jack stands of sufficient weight rating.

To the op I always see coupons that come as junk mail for $20.00 oil change specials you can roll over there.

whoops.. guess all those times i changed my oil was a bad idea right? and all those people that have died from jack stands failing under the weight of their cars was a good idea? if you have the support done right, then it shouldn't be a car.

By improperly removing the old filter. You would think this is not possible, but I've seen it happen quite a few times.

Only you know the value of your life...

There's a reason why the jackstands may fail. They're either damaged, overloaded, or improperly placed.

The scissor jack that comes with the car is very light duty and should not be used for the purpose you describe.

Hey guys,

Just a quick update. Eugene helped me a little over a week ago, and I have to say I'm very impressed with his work. He's extremely thorough and helpful in explaining everything he's putting your car through, and that being said, I think I walked away from the situation with a lot more knowledge and understanding of my car. To add to that, just an overall great guy who held a conversation pretty well and definitely shows in his handywork that he really does care about perfecting his craft. Nice guy, and what really got me was that he really knows the G inside and out. Couple that with his immaculate attention to detail and his somewhat OCD traits, and you've got a great Infiniti mechanic at hand. Definitely give him a call or send him a PM if you need anything done.

Thanks again Eugene! Oh and of course everyone else in this thread too.. Even the comments that didn't seem to go anywhere! Thanks!
