Anyone else running CARB legal Vortech Kit V-3 SCi

Getting ready to order the full kit p/n 4NZ218-038L.

This will be installed on a 03 G35 6MT Brembo coupe.

Looking for anyone locally with experience. Any issues you encountered with installation, wiring, smog checks, driveability?

What about any other parts that are recommended? Steps the install manual leaves out? Tips for best results? Tricks? Please share 'em here.

Boost is fun so welcome to the club!

First off, if you haven't already, read this thread...all of it:
http://my350z.com/forum/forced-induc...questions.html

Before ordering the full kit, you should talk to your tuner about what he/she recommends for fuel, engine management, and supporting mods. Where do you plan to go for tuning?

Thanks, It's been on the bucket list for ages.

I'm not talking to a tuner, and don't plan on any tuning... not even sure it's possible with the kit as it comes with a piggy back fmu.

if you change the pulley or fuel system to something other than what comes with the full vortech kit, then no that's technically not CARB legal at that point, and you will get caught during CA inspection unless you hide things really well. I think a fuel pressure regulator from a return kit is usually the dead give-away that raises red flags at inspections.
Sticking to the complete kit for now. Down the road, we'll see...

Supporting mods are:

Greedy Evo TT true dual exhaust
Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer
Volk 19" CE28N Time Attack with 245 / 275 Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position rubber

You really need to hit the pause button and start talking to a tuner ASAP. Also, please read that FAQ that I posted. Comments like this make me think you haven't done enough research.

Without a proper tune, the only thing you're going to find down the road is a blown motor. Living in the bay area, you have access to one of the best Nissan/Infiniti shops on the west coast at Z Car Garage. It will take you time to get in their queue, but you really should be working with a shop even if you plan to install the kit yourself.

Yes, I've read the faq numerous times. That is where the above quote originated.

Don't get me wrong-- I do understand how important a good tune can be. I went half mad trying to get my last OBD1 ride running perfectly after an engine swap. GM Assembly level code anyone?

But, with all respect, there is nothing to tune here man

Thanks for your help (seriously appreciate it). Enlighten me? What part of this kit can be "tuned"?

This, from the linked FAQ, posted by OP:

the full kit is fairly complete. It comes with everything you need to get up and running safely. For 400whp or less, it works just fine and is really all you'll need."

OP you have to tune AFR or air to fuel ratio. Without tuning it you may burn up a valve or overheat certain parts of the engine.

Then why does Vortech state on their website :

"Vortech's G35 Supercharging Systems are available as either a complete, fully calibrated bolt-on system, or as a V-3 SCi tuner kit for custom installations"

I've taken the time to email a vortech rep regarding this point, as well as contact zcargarage.

Yes if you buy the complete kit for your application, that does come with everything to make it run correctly and be legal.
We do not “tune” the computer on this model, what we do is include an inline fuel pump, a Fuel Management Unit, and a Split Second timing box.

Those 3 components take care of the calibration for the vehicle.
This works perfectly as long as the vehicle is stock.
Rob at zcargarage was very helpful as well in answering questions and confirmed this. Also went as far to say that even if I brought the car in after install, there would be nothing they could do to tune it unless I replaced the vortech supplied fmu and timing unit.

If anyone has experience with the complete 'full kit' as sold by Vortech, with splitsecond timing box and fmu installed. I'd love to hear.

Thanks all.

I just hit 100k , was wondering if it was better to source an engine with low mileage and build that .. I would like to be CARB exempt myself or well at least start with that kit , do some upgrades and detune for smog
