Need help?

As u guys know I just got my G and I'm new to stickshift.
I don't know if I'm driving correctly. So anyone who has some free time on their hands and stays near cupertino could give me a little pointers? Like sit in my car while I drive for a short while, tell me what I'm doing wrong and correct me. A G35 driver would certainly explain how to drive the G better =)

Why do you feel you're driving it wrong?

Rough starts? Unsmooth gear shifts? Stalling?

Practice makes perfect. I've noticed that if you have passengers that know nothing about cars, you'll improve a lot if you ask them how they feel. See if they get dizzy or stuff like that. They'll tell you if your shifts feel harsh or not.

maybe i can help, we can go to the dealership and you can drive it a manual g with me in the passenger side and a salesman in teh back. u can stall all you want and i'll respond to your actions on driving a manual transmission. we'll just pretend you're interested in buying it but you dont know how to drive a manual. best way to learn is to practice.

Hm, actually, its the launches from a stop. I feel like I'm wearing the clutch out or something. I rev to 1.5k rpm then slowly let the clutch out till engagement it feels like its trying to catch after maybe a little more than half a second, I let out the clutch fully and add throttle as i please. So its the "trying to catch" part that makes me feel uneasy.

daily driving of course ... I wouldn't be racing it
Also, I drove with the windows down at midnight and I hear my transmission when I shift sometimes(when its notchy), its that supposed to happen. The transmission seems so inconsistent sometimes being buttersmooth sometimes extremely notchy and annoying.

try doing this instead...
1. starting from netural.
2. hold down the clutch
3. put the car into 1st gear
4. slowly release the clutch, very slow. very slow. until the car starts moving, hold it. learn where that "point" is. ok..
5. now apply gas slowy and while you're doing that slowly release the clutch.
6. once the clutch is completely release, apply gas

if you're a newbie, you should drive around an empty parking lot at 2-3mph just by holding the clutch at that point where the car moves without any gas.

if you want real life practice, just let me know, you can buy me coffee

I have practiced the 'gassless clutch' method for a few days already.

step no 5 is where I have problems with.
I can find the friction point pretty quickly its just that i can't go off as if i were driving automatic after engagement. seems to be a second where i have to be slow and all (when releasing the clutch after friction point)

I find it easier to launch by revving to 1~2k before engaging friction point.

i haven't drove a g35 coupe manual, so i can't respond to that first question. this is my 6th car, all my cars have been manual and i drove 'em all a little bit different, but when it came to getting off from first, it's how i wrote it.

it intrigues me, so this upcoming week, i'm going to infiniti to test drive the manual transmission on the coupes and let you know if it has what you're talking about.

i had a mr2 with a 3rd gen sw20. it was equipped with a hks flywheel and hks clutch... omg that shiet chattered like a bitch when i engage the clutch. but my shiet will jerk like hell if u tried to rev first to catch the clutch.

This might sound stupid but I can't drive as well in my Air Jordans VIIIs. Shoes with thinner soles do me better. There car seems to jerk when I shift when i wear the AJs. Does that really happen or am I imagining it?
