your story doesnt make much sense. Insurance company should notify you about any extra expenses that are not covered under the policy. If I were you, I'll call my insurance agent ASAP, and find out what's going on. who do you have for your insurance???

yeah agreed. the body shop is only supposed to charge you the deductible. if you worked it out for them to order aftermarket stuff instead of OEM then it should have been made clear that you'll still stick with your deductible only... 1800 is a LOT extra!! i hope this shop isn't cleaning you out by charging you AND your insurance extra

^ My thoughts exactly. Make sure your insurance company is aware of this, and do not pay for services that were not agreed upon.

David,

This doesn't sound right. You have received great advice from the others.

Was your car at Scotts? I was there today, but I didnt see any G there... Maybe I'm blind...

But yeah. You shouldn't have to pay any in addition to your deductable. Your insurance is suppose to take care of the rest for you. That's why we have insurance... so we dont get slapped with a giant bill at the end.

Guys it is like this, the car went to the shop and the insurance came back with a quote to cover the cost to repair but David wanted some other parts put on the car and Ted said sure I will add it in and get back to the insurance. Later Ted gets back and said he had the go ahead and supposedly it covered all parts, so David orders them, today he calls to see how it's going and Ted tells him that it's going to cost 1800 more including his deductable which means that the total extra was 1300 which he did not expect.
I have told him what he should do and what he should not do, I will not post it on the board as it will always get back to Ted and I do not want to start a bashing contest, David now knows his rights.

I may be new to this but not to insurance. I am an adjuster and can tell you that the insurance is required to put your car into it's pre accident condition, no better&no worse. You should not have to pay anything other than your deductible. The shop should send a supplement to the ins. co. and they need to honor it or they are acting in bad faith. Worst case you have to pay up front to get your car back quicker and insurance will reimburse you, but you should not be out the money long run. Sometimes shops want to get paid before they release the car and checks can sometimes take a couple weeks to get processed. Good luck!
