Performance Driving School Sat. 3/3/07

NWARC Performance Driving School Saturday 3/3/07 @ Bremerton raceway.

If you've ever wanted to drive your car at the track but were afraid to because you did not have any track experience, then this is the school for you. If you have been to the track a few times and are still a bit puzzled about how to improve your driving skills, then this school is for you. If you have driven at tracks many times but find new courses difficult to learn, then this school is for you.

Details.
The morning will be spent on exercises that focus on specific aspects of driving and the afternoon will be spent using your newly learned skills on the track.
Bremerton Raceway is a 1.25 mile temporary roadcourse. It used to be an air feild so it's flat and has lots of runoff.

There is a long straight get up to at least 80mph before the chicane. after the chicane you get back up to about 45mph and take a left sweeper that unfolds into a tight 45-55mph slalom that gets wider untill the final turn back onto the straight. ( Its a cone course so it may be different.)

Bremerton Raceway provides a safe environment for you to learn the skills needed to participate in Performance Driving Events.

Objective
This school will focus on basic car handling techniques and the physics involved in your vehicles reactions. You will learn how to judge and execute the correct line through any corner and how to slow down to drive faster, plus much more.

Registration cost is $110.00.

This event is open to valid licensed drivers* who have attended our Driving School or have beginner/novice level experience in High Performance Driving.

*NOTE: Proof of valid drivers license is required for participation.

Instructors will be available to ride with you and coach you at each station.
Please make sure that your car is in proper condition. Remember although it will be inspected, you are still responsible for your car being safe.
Please do some homework before the event. Review these pages before coming to class. http://www.nwalfaclub.com/track/beginner.php

Safety Requirements - Helmet
Must be rated SNELL or SFI 1995 or newer. We have 13 rental helmets available on a first-come-first-serve basis @ $10.00 ea. per day, contact track registrar to reserve one.

SNELL SA or M approved helmets have a sticker on the inside of the lining. Check your helmet to verify it was manufactured after 1995.

SFI 31 and 41 rated helmets are very similar to the standards of Snell and are rated as follows:
Competition Specifications 31.1 (Open Face) and 31.2 (Closed Face) are comparable to the Snell SA rating.
Sportsman Specifications 41.1 (Open Face) and 41.2 (Closed Face) are comparable to the Snell M rating.

DO NOT wear DOT Department Of Transportation or Athletic style helmets as they are not rated for high speed impact protection.

Glasses
Safety glasses should be worn if the helmet has no face shield. Driving goggles should be made of shatter-proof glass or plastic. Prescription glasses or sunglasses are permitted.

Clothing
Must me made of Nomex or 100% cotton/wool and extend to your ankles, wrists and neck. Denim jeans and cotton long sleeved shirt are required minimum attire. If you own a Nomex Driving Suit we recommend you wear it for Alfa Lapping Days.

DO NOT wear synthetic (nylon polyester spandex) clothing as it can melt into your skin if you are in a fire.

Shoes
Leather-topped shoes with 100% cotton/wool socks are required minimum attire.

DO NOT wear high heels, sandals, platform shoes or clogs.

Gloves
Leather work gloves or Nomex racing gloves are required minimum attire.

DO NOT wear cotton garden gloves, synthetic (nylon spandex), or perforated open back driving gloves.

Driver and Passenger Restraints (Seat belts)
Factory installed restraints are acceptable. Your car's factory 3-point seat belts are required minimum equipment. Vintage 2-point lap belts must be replaced by a 5 or 6 point Harness restraint system. The Five Point Harness is recommended equipment for all Alfa Track events and mandatory if your vehicle was equipped with a two point lap belt.

Directions to Bremerton Motorsports Park
I like to take the fauntleroy ferry from west seattle..

From Hwy 16

North or south on Hwy 16 on the Kitsap Peninsula
Take the Old Clifton Road exit. Head west on Old Clifton Road for several miles.
When you see the Texaco station, take a left towards the station, then take an immediate right in front of the station. Follow this residential street to the end and you're there!
Check Ferry Schedules Online www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedules for the Southworth or Bremerton sailing times.

I copy/pasted this from another forum I frequent. I have some friends that want to go, as do I. Wanted to see if any of you Z/G guys wanted to go to this Alfa club event. Only $110 whereas trackdays are regularly $200+. Also, it's on a Saturday, where trackdays are usually on weekdays. Plus it's at Bremerton, which I hear is best for your first time. I need to buy some gloves though!

To register, I guess you call Kathleen Edwards. I haven't signed up yet, though.

I want to go so bad, but I think I'm gonna have to bow out of this one. All weather predictions point to rain. I don't want to do that my 1st time out. Plus it would mean I can't run my r-comps. Runnin' on 20's in the rain would not be fun...

If you really want good driving lessons, take a class at Proformance Racing School at Pacific Raceways. Our buddy Don Kitch owns the school, and it is a great place. After taking the class you can go back and run lapping days as well.
