If they do give you a new motor see if you can keep the old one... I wouldn't mind building a spare

So here we go!

1071 miles in and guess what...

It tastes like burning.

Now is where it gets odd...So yes I failed the OC test, yes I am getting a new motor, HOWEVER...they changed the TSB from a nice clean LONG block replacement, to a SHORT block only...no new heads, valves manifold etc...just the bottom up. So I am now working with Nissan directly to have them hopefully live up to the TSB as it was when I started the test, not when I finished it...

The change to the replacement went into effect Aug 1, 2010... I am hoping that because I began my test before they changed the policy, they may work with me on it...here's hoping! I'll keep you all in the loop as this plays out!

If they only replaced the short block would ur old heads just unbolt and bolt back onto the new block.? Seems like they would have to remove and rebuild which may have a chance in damaging something. Anyhow. Hope u get the longblock..

I don't think they will give you a shortblock, its not very efficient time wise. When I worked at infiniti there were so many longblocks replaced for the 06 oil burners.
(I used to be an Infiniti and Nissan Tech)

I hope so Jining, maybe you can help me with some scripts to tell customer affairs...hehe They told me they will review my request and get back to me Saturday. As it stands the dealership is following the new TSB and ordering up a short block...hope they mess up and get a long block in

Hehe, yea the parts manager sounded like he hoped I got the long block, even encouraged me to ask CA for it haha. The service chick however was like...I don't think the short block is any different from the long block...so yea...

Sorry for not keeping you guys updated: here's the scoop.

Nissan is the single most frustrating company I have EVER dealt with.

So I failed my test and Nissan is ordering me a new engine...now before we get all giggly, Nissan also changed the TSB ...WHILE I WAS IN PROCESS OF THE OC TEST...sorry...I'm ready to melt down at them at this point.

Here's the simple time line:

July 23 - Started OC Test
Aug 1 - Nissan updates TSB (Long block replacement now changes to Short block ONLY)
Aug 8 - complete 1000 miles - Nissan confirms OC problem - orders short block.

I have worked through the dealership, service department (who were great) and then on to Customer Affairs, and all the way up to Customer Affairs Executive team. ALL of who basically told me to kick rocks. Due to the fact that the TSB now states only short blocks will be used overrides the fact that I began the test under a completely different warranty process.

WTF on that.

So at this point I've taken this to Nissan Corporate and will be escalating my efforts to have this addressed fairly.

at least they are fixing it..my dealer sill would not own up to my failure engine...when I check my engine oil in the morning it is clearly at 12+mm low but they claim it is onle 5-6mm low..they would do anything to get out of extra repairs even under warranty good luck with your fight....
