You don't have to own a show car to go to a car show (unless you plan on entering the contest).

I would like to roll with you guys but can't for other reasons beyond my control (wife had a surgery at the beginning of this month that has about a 6+ week recovery period).

Actually it was 'my bad' for assuming people would know I was just playing around.
