What's the rules in WA for modified cars?

I hope it's not nearly as bad as CA!

I'm trying to find info about emissions/inspections in Washington since I will be moving there next week. Anyone have any input for me? My car has a few mods, but nothing drastic. (yet!) Thanks guys! (and gals?)

emission is every 5 years so if you have an aftermarket exhuast I suggest you to put the stock one back on for the test. Front liencese plate and noise isn't very strict around here so its alot better than cali other then that I dont know what else.

I believe cars over 5 years old needs emission test every other year. This is what I found from http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/air/c...scheckfaqs.htm

Does my vehicle need an emission test?
If your vehicle needs a test, your vehicle license renewal notice will say: "WA emission inspection required." Gasoline and diesel vehicles need a test every other year if they are:

*

Registered or will be registered in certain zip code areas of King, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane, and Clark counties; and
*

Five to 24 years old.

The chart below shows which model-year vehicles need to be tested in 2006 through 2008.

Year

Vehicles requiring a test

2006

1982 - 1994, even model years and 1997s, 1999s, 2001s

2007

1983 - 1995, odd model years and 1996s, 1998s, 2000s, 2002s
2008 1984 - 1994, even model-years and 1997s, 1999s, 2001s, 2003s

Vehicles also need an emission test in the following situations:

*

When you transfer the ownership to a new owner, unless the transfer is between immediate family members or between co-owners.
*

When an out-of-state vehicle is brought into one of the emission test areas -- Clark, King, Pierce, Snohomish, or Spokane Counties. We test those vehicles according to the year, as shown in the chart above.

note: if you want to run some crazy turbo setup and straight pipes so your car wont pass emissions, then get a PO Box out in the boonies like Leavenworth or Sultan, and have your car registered there. Then they wont require you to get emissions test. I have friends who live out there and they never had to. Thats going to an extreme though to get around it

Sweet! Thanks for the info, guys!

I have a Borla (which looks basically stock) and stock cats, so there should be no difference emission-wise. Here in gestapo land they don't even like aftermarket air-filters during the inspection. How an air filter affects the exhaust content, I'm not quite sure.

Is there any inspection? I don't really plan on changing the car anymore. . .I don't have enough time. :-( I guess I'll just have to GTR it in a few years. :-)

I'll have to get to a meet up there. . .I'd like to meet some fellow G drivers.

Take care, everyone!
