Overview:
Standard zoom lens with an Image Stabilizer and high zoom ratio. With the Image Stabilizer turned on, you can obtain sharp, natural-looking pictures in dim lighting without using flash or a tripod. Very handy for places where flash is prohibited. Uses ring-type USM for swift, silent autofocus and full-time manual focus. Closest focusing distance is 20 in. (50cm).

is this a good zoom lens? i'm lookin for something for a lens that can zoom in a good distance, (ex audience taking picture of a performance on a stage).. currently have a standard nikon AF-S 18-55mm lens..

Also, if you are shooting in low light conditions, then I would not suggest this lens. For low light shooting you will need to invest a little (okay, a lot) more money for a faster lens. I'm getting a 70-200 2.8 IS, which is considerably more expensive ($1700) but is much faster. However, it's size and weight are its downfalls.
This lens is compatible with Canon DSLRs (350D/400D/450D, 10D-40D).
