I worked on the Firmware for the startup of the F-22 when I was at Raytheon. The F-35 is the JSF which is a collaboration between a lot of countries (US, UK, Japan, etc).

F-22

F-35

Different variants to accomodate each of the three services' special needs im guessing?
Yes, we have three versions designed to serve the US Navy, US Air Force, US Marines, Royal Navy, and a host of other international forces. The official name is the F-35 Lightning II. The Air Force version is basically a conventional aircraft. The Navy version gets larger wings, a toehook, and other goodies to land on carriers. The Marine version is a STOVL (Short Takeoff, Vertical Landing) aircraft designed to takeoff from very short runways and land vertically, like the Harrier.

Does he work in El Segundo? Last name starts with "S"?

No, it starts with a K. He lives in the San Fernando Valley, so I am sure its close to his home.
