Night Shoot, advice welcomed

Ok, went out last night with my camera and heard of people shooting in RAW format so I decided to try it... Not sure how they turned out, some pics look a bit grainy to me and in some the focus was off a bit.

I use a Nilon D40, should I just leave it in: Fine / M / Auto ISO? .... LOL.... I am really such a photo NuB...

I was out driving after taking those and this guy in a M3 gets my attention, asks me to pull over and we shoot the $hit for a bit.

A couple last ones...

Soooo, help me improve!

Thanks

I dont know how you do it, but you make TB look amazing, usually it looks like a dull black but you make the color show. I wish I could take pics as good as that, and I would like to know how you keep the paint like that.

Yep ... Had the tripod for all those shots except the roof shot. I was experimenting with RAW and I think that was it (not sure tho).

Thanks

I wash her at least once every two weeks with Meguires NXT soap and I use NXT tech wax 2.0 with Z8 final spray over it. I used to do the whole Zaino thing but I actually prefer NXT wax over Zaino personally.

Also every 3 mo I get out my porter cable and use SONUS SFX 2 / SFX 3 to re-polish the paint to keep it as swirl free as possible (dark color cars are a pain)... Polishing helps the color of the paint to *pop*... Most people just wax and forget to actually polish / condition the paint itself. I clay bar once every 6 - 12 months as well. I try to maintain her as good as possible as I am keeping this car until the wheels fall off!

still looks blurry, so there was camera shake, prob. durring shutter release, get a remote or use the timer. Try different metering points such as the car's body, wheels, etc. Always bracket in difficult light. Use photshop to edit the RAW image, you'll be able to change the white balance and also bring outsome lost details.

I'll have to agree with all the post above..i dunno how you did it man but that car probably looks better than the first day you picked it up from the dealer and it has 82k. for a daily driver props to you.

Great idea... the movement of my hand pressing the shutter button most likely made the camera move... I do not have a remote so the timer should work nicely. thanks.. I dont have photoshop so I am thinking leaving in auto mode would probably be best for my NuBiness! ... What do you mean by bracketing?

thanks.

Thanks

Detailing to me is like gardening to many others... I can get lost detailing her... I loose all track of time and before I know it 6 hours have gone by.

Nice pictures. That's not a m3 btw, just a normal 3 series coupe.

The sideview mirrors give it away.
