I am pretty sure that they could give you a ticket of it, a guy posted one on another forum something about tire not fitting the rim correctly and it being a saftey thing.

I wonder what's written in their stupid handbook this time for stretched tires...
eg, too low = wheels are lower than the vehicle's lowest part

Well, I talked to a really cool cop that let me off with a warning for it but gave me a front plate ticket and he explained there are several things.

First, he said it's unsafe. He also said the tire needs a certain amount of air in it to carry a certain weight. By having flared fenders or covering them, he said it would make it ok, which I don't get because if it was to keep from kicking up debris or anything, you would need mud guards for that because the fender is on the top portion of where the wheel is.

I kinda don't get why the wheels sticking out being a problem, even for those that drive with them extremely popping out, you know, the Mexican style (not to be racist or anything but they're the only ones I see doing it)...however they have super thin tires and are not stretched.

Gonna see if I can find something in the DMV handbook, not sure how successful I'll be though. I PM'ed G35 Mass to see if he can provide any input as well.

levon i think its just beating the cops at their own bs, i think the reason shane doesnt get pulled over is because of how much he flared his fenders

so just flare those fenders man, because technically what the cops can't see, they cant pull you over for? well in a sense, you get me?

as for putting a reason BEHIND why they would pull you over for those things, i just quit, i don't mean to offend any police officers but we all have to admit how terrible california is at making sense for traffic laws

Only thing I can find in the CA DMV is this:

24002. (a) It is unlawful to operate any vehicle or combination of vehicles which is in an unsafe condition, or which is not safely loaded, and which presents an immediate safety hazard.

(b) It is unlawful to operate any vehicle or combination of vehicles which is not equipped as provided in this code.

The thing is, it doesn't state what is unsafe. Is that at the discretion of the officer? There must be some statute or something, because they can't simply feel that something is unsafe when it may in fact be safe or safe enough in the eyes of another officer.

Can't always beat em, that's the sh*tty part. It seems like hardly any cops will let you go anymore, seems like they have to cite for some sort of fix it ticket or something. I just don't know when I can get my fenders pulled, hopefully next week.
