As a resident camera geek, I'll tell you that there's something going on there that doesn't have anything to do with the difference between raw/jpeg, sirs.
Most people don't realize that pics will actually look better straight from the camera in jpeg than they will straight out of the camera in raw...

What kind of camera/lens were they taken with? (and what's with the vignetting on that last photo?)

I have no camera knowledge and was stating what he gave me. I don't know what camera he was using and he just got the camera so he's a noob on how to use it. I guess he was trying new things and did the vignetting on the last photo.

np, not trying to flame on anyone or anything. sometimes it takes a bit to get the hang of it.

The blue vert z is pretty sweet though, that is good sauce.
