(1) 580ex ii
(2) 285hv

i wanna swap the 285hv's for lp120's, but it's not necessary right now. the 285hv's are just workhorses and they do a fantastic job. for $90 each, you can't beat them.

distance and angle all depend on what kind of lighting you are looking for. pretty much just move stuff around until you are happy. there are tricks for ambient and bouncing the lighting off stuff but i dont know that much.

the vivitars have a calculator on them that help you determine focal length, aperture, and strength. you can set them as close or as far as you want within their effective range.

Cal those came out great for you first attempt....sweet! Really like the second shot. I wish the shadow behind the back of the car wasn't there in the first image, but I don't know jack about off camera lighting so I can't tell you how you could have setup your lights differently to get rid of it.

You weren't kidding about your car being dirty. I always ride with microfibers and quick detailer in my car, if a bird gets me I bust out the cleaner and towel right away. LOL, I get so many weird looks in the parking lot at work when I'm wiping the car off after its been attacked by a bird.
