My Sedan Rear Lip Spoiler (pics)
Re: My Sedan Rear Lip Spoiler (pics)
I just got my lip spoiler. I bought it off Ebay and it was advertized as being for a G35 sedan. I'm sure it's the same as all the others because it needed to be bent. I left it on my dash and after work it was really hot so I held it with a towel and bent it. Pretty easy.
Here's the bad/stupid news: I took it to a body shop ( one of the fancy places in the auto center ) and they were all "it is textured so we'll have to sand it" blah blah blah. Then they gave me an estimate of over $400 !!! What jerks ! If you don't want the small jobs why not just say so.
Anyway, I'm hoping that another place in town is more reasonable. Did yours come out smooth and glossy like the stock paint !!!
Thanks,
Dan

alfapwr,
the finished product has same color/finish as rest of car.
Regarding installation, I think the word "flex" is more applicable then "bend". The spoiler I got would return to its original shape, so I did not pre-bend it. At time of application, it was merely "flexed" to fit...which put very little strain on it.
The trick was to start on one side of the trunk (after cleaning with alcohol), and pull the tape covering off (from underneath) simultaneously as you apply (by pressure) from one side to the other. While it just takes a minute, an extra set of hands is a must.

Re: My Sedan Rear Lip Spoiler (pics)
alfapwr,
I'm getting my spoiler today and I've been thinking about where to go for painting. I'm thinking that my best bet is the place that's done repairs for me in the past. You know, use that "I'm your good customer" angle and see if it can be done for around $100.
I agree with you completely. Why waste your time when they know the estimate won't be less than $400? That's just stupid. It's like; a business gets successful and then immediately gets stupid, forgetting what made them successful in the first place.
Good luck.
For davemac,
Thanks for the head's up on the spoiler. I did like you said and picked it up from revotec-usa off eBay. I had been looking for a clean solution to finish the rear of my sedan but was totally turned off by the thought of drilling the lid or rewiring the center brake light.

Okay, got the 92-95 Civic spoiler this morning and took it to my mechanic. He gave me a referral to a body shop that quoted me $110 including tax installed. So the net cost is going to be about $150. That's a great price considering I don't have to install it. I should have it done by Monday. Nice job finding this, davemac!

calejohnson,
sounds good, I'll be looking forward to hearing how it worked out when I get back from vacation. Remember that you shouldn't wax a body shop paint job for at least 40 days (since it is not baked on). I'm extremely pleased with mine, and have gotten many compliments from coworkers. The look is very tasteful, and does a good job of "completing" the rear end.

Re: My Sedan Rear Lip Spoiler (pics)
Well I got screwed.
I bought a spoiler off ebay that was for a G35. Unfortunately it's made of ABS and is not paintable. The guy's ebay listing says he'll refund the money ( probably not the outrageous shipping - $15 to go 20 miles ). We'll see.
I'm so pissed right now that I may just wait to see how much the CF one is before contacting revotec. CF would probably look good on my black sedan, right ?

Re: My Sedan Rear Lip Spoiler (pics)
I had the spoiler installed today and I'm very pleased with the results. From a distance it looks perfect. Up close, I see some of the imperfections in the molding process that tells me the body shop didn't spend a lot of time filling and sanding the piece before painting it. I can't really argue because the cost was minimal and they took the time to position it carefully on the trunk edge. The paint is a good match to the Brilliant Silver color of the car. Here are some pics.

Thanks. Have you had any problems with the 3M tape coming off?? How would you rate the product quality and overall appearance addition since pictures don't do it justice? Thanks again
