first time with a SLR and lighting on my mostly oem sedan

I borrowed my moms D90 and her fancy professional lights and messed around with it. I havent done anything except with my point and shoot because I cant afford the expensive SLRs right now maybe one day. anyway, comments, suggestions?

oh its just my stock sedan lowered with the usual z/g spring combo.

not too bad. you want to try and focus the lights more on the car than the ground so it brings out curves/silhouettes of the car that might be too dark normally.

I had the ISO at 200 though? I metered it though when it was still light and then it got dark very quickly. and I need all the hints I can get on lighting. I was having a hard time getting the lights to do anything on the car. I had a snoot cover on one and then just a barn door and used the modeling light on the other. is there a different kind of lighting setup that works better?
