The matte black wrap is very easy to maintain... resists scratches, chips, oil, dirt, etc. So far, it's been way easier to take care of compared to paint. I can wipe my car down in 10 minutes now and it looks super clean. I decided to wrap instead of paint for a couple of reasons -
1) All of the matte/flat black paint jobs I've seen in person eventually start looking bad after a little time passes. Finger prints, shiny spots, scratches... everything seems to show up on them.
2) I track the car and the wrap is an easy way to maintain the look without having to go through a body shop for paint after repairs, rock chips, etc.
3) I was able to get the material and wrap it myself. This is definitely doable, but it is a lot of work, and to do it right be prepared to invest a lot of time and patience.
Now, for downsides... the only thing I could think of would be the cost in having this done somewhere. It's fairly pricey, even if you do it yourself. For cleaning, I use quick detailer and stay away from anything that has wax in it. I've had it on since November, and so far I've had no issues with it at all. Another thing is that the material itself is a little difficult to get a hold of. If I didn't have a friend at the vinyl supplier, I would probably still be looking for a roll of it.

I have some friends in Houston who work in custom body workshops, and I asked one of them to get a quote for the custom paint place next door to him, he told me a good paint job would be abound $10,000 for matte black which would be taking the whole car painting the body, then putting it back together. For a wrap, I asked some guys on this forum they said about $3000 for high grade/quality material and finish. Is that about right? From your personal experience wrap seems like the clear best choice

That seems like a fair price... I got quotes for the wrap anywhere from $3500-4500. The material cost me about $1400 for the roll, and I can do at least 2 full cars with it (probably 2.5)... so a majority of the cost is labor. Seems like a lot for labor until you do it yourself - then it seems completely fair
I'm definitely happy I went with the wrap instead of paint. Best of all, when I get tired of it or want to change it up, I can just peel off the wrap.
