as previously mentioned it is called "painters tape". It comes off easily and clean, part of the reason it is used by painters. Not certain how much it costs but definitely worth the price over the cheap masking tape.

3M painters tape.It does not leave any residue,Thats why it is so popular for long trips to car shows. It does come in different sizes.Cost about $5.00 a roll,or you can buy a bulk pack for overall less cost.It is well worth it to protect the paint especially for a show car.I started using it about 5 years ago.

gotta love the blue painters tape haha. It's amazing how simple but helpful the tape is. It takes forever to clean the bumper with all those bugs on it, not to mention all taht bug juice isnt too good for the paint.

Nice pics. They bring back a lot of memories driving into Lubbock during the early 90's. I remember that factory place well since it was the first sign you were finally in Lubbock. It was a hell of a long drive from Houston in a cramped, hot car. You should probably tape the whole car because 4 1/2 years trashed my paint job on my old Camaro. Dam sand storms.

Cool idea using blue tape to protect the paint. I love that stuff.

well in autocross (or other racing) the idea is to reduce drag by covering up all lines of things such as the hood, headlights, and anyhere air could get "trapped," though this isnt why he did it obviously

True. People who autocross also put the tape in vulnerable areas of the car so it will not be damaged by debris which is usually a pylon that they take out at 30+ MPH This would be more on the same lines of the reason he used the tape.
