md 1/2 iso-spacer review/pics.

after all the rave's on spacers i decided to go with the md 1/2 iso thermal spacer. the install was very simple, and easy to do. i followed the directions except i opted for blue loctite instead of the red that was provided by md. in my eyes the red is a bit excessive especially since i do plan on taking the upper plenum off for future mods. i was surprised to find that there was no oil puddling in the plenum like other members have stated they found when doing their install. the two highligts from this mod are that using a torque wrench and strictly follwing the torque procedure is crucial to avoiding intake leaks and ensuring leaks wont develop in the future. the second is that i reccomend you do an ecu reset prior to running the new mod. i didnt recent the ecu thinking the computer would adapt right away. it didnt. the car ran some what sluggish and felt like i lost power. then i reset the ecu and within 5 miles of driving i could tell my origional power was back and then some... pulls real hard from 3k to redline. i may have lost power from 1k-3k but to me the car gets up and goes pretty quick just needed some more up top.and the md 1/2 delivered. prior to the install i was skeptical about the heat reduction with the use of the iso-gasket. the o.e. gasket is a m.l.s type gasket and it basically transmits 100% of the heat from the heads and lower plenum. the iso- gasket is a thick paper type gasket that definatley will reduce the heat soak. how much is anyone's guess but i guarantee that it does block some heat vs. the o.e. gasket. i see why this mod is a favorite amog the vq owners i reccomend it as well very satisfied and my c/f 350z engine cover still fits!

G35CTuner,

Just a note, the RED thread locker we supply in the kit is actually the mildest thread locker available. Its just enough to hold the bolts in place but easily allows removal when you need to take them out.

Glad you like the spacer results!

Tony

over time the bolts could start to loosen a bit, creating a leak. The Loctite fills the gaps between the threads to keeps the bolts from loosening and backing out.

Just go for it! Either one will do you fine. I'm running the 5/16" and noticed the gains immediately after I installed and reset the ECU.

Today I added the grounding wires kit and was surprised how well both mods work together. The car feels more together with its power delivery and transmission shifts in sport shift mode are more precise (I have 5AT BTW)

I've got the 5/16" iso installed currently with an Osiris tune, does anyone know how that compares to the 1/2" with a tune? I've heard you can pull a lot more HP but nothing solid...

1/2" will give you more up top...which is where you are goin to be most of the time if you are racing or doing the 1/4 mile kinda thing. It just depends on your driving style and what you want. With a good tune though, I think you will get better gains from the 1/2".

You sure they maybe didn't break something? There is no way you should experience a drop in performance from a plenum spacer... ECU reset or not

If installed correctly it will never cause a reduction in performance. It sounds like your ECU may have gone into "safe mode". But it will only do this if something is physically or electrically wrong. Like a MAF sensor not being plugged back in.

What did you notice after install?

No. They are physically incompatible with eachother. The Kinetix has a central support column that is mean to rest against the lower plenum... but with the plenum lifted up by the spacer, the support column won't be able to do its function of providing support to the Kinetixes plastic upper panel and cause it to break.

Even if they were compatible, it probably wouldn't fit under the hood.
