Thumbs up Crawford Cats installed

Well, finally got my Crawford Cats installed yesterday....

Sound: Definitely more growl, but no loss of stock sound. I haven't noticed any rattling noises that some others have mentioned.

Performance: I don't plan to dyno my car. The car seems to rev quicker now with definite increased "oomph" at higher rpms (>4500). I do not notice any loss of torque.

Very happy with this install. I plan to install headers next. On a side note, the people at Crawford were extremely helpful, friendly, and pleasant to deal with (I live in Winnipeg, Canada, and there was no problem with shipping).

Congrats. Did you install them yourself, if so what size Oxygen Sensor socket did you use?

..going to order mine any day now...

I got the dealer to install them, so I can't comment on the oxygen sensor socket...I'm sure the guys at Crawford could answer that question (I dealt with Doug).

No check engine light. Fitment perfect for the '05. I've put 500K on them, and still no "extra" noises or weird sounds...

Unhappy update

Just an update, now, after about 800kms, I can hear a rattling noise at around 2000-2500 rpm. I'm sure it's the driver's side cat rattling against the body of the car. I plan to take it back to the dealer to have it fixed in the next week...

Sometimes when installing the crawford cats, they rub against the heat shields underneath the car. For my crawford cats, the passenger side cat was the culprit of the slight rattling noise. All that is recquired is that an installer hammer or bend the heat shields to create some space and voila! Rubbing problem solved...

I've been going back and forth on these for about a year now (yes, I've only had the car for a few months ). I've been thinking that I'd install the headers and Y-pipe (keeping OEM rear section for a while) and see how those were, but it's really sounding like I'm not going to get much benefit without upgrading the cats. Meanwhile, on the intake side I'm doing no more than a G-tube and drop-in filter (no spacer since it's an '05) so I'm not sure they'll be worth it.

But long-term goals include cams and possibly a port/polish, so the cats will be needed at some point. Might as well get all the exhaust work done at the same time.

Also interested in the installation cost.

They charged me $175.00 CDN. Probably too much.

Also, as I mentioned, the driver's side cat was making a rattling noise at certain rpms. well, I took it back to the dealer, and they bent the heat shield for me at no charge. Now, no rattle!

I've now put about 1000K on them. I don't think there's been much of a change over time, in regards to torque/HP (INITIALLY, I believe there was a noticeable change, but no incremental gain since).

As far as sound goes, the exhaust note has gotten slightly louder and lower pitched, even at idle. Not much different from stock, and no droning whatsoever. But somehow more aggressive. I love it. One of the tech guys at Inifiniti even asked me when I drove it up "Hey, have you had work done on your exhaust? Sounds amazing!".

Overall, I'm very pleased.

TheCutter, it is nice to hear that you are very pleased with them. But I am curious, what were you after? Power increase, smell increase, sound increase or just because everybody else is removing factory cats? Do you have any other breathing mods?

In my case, these cats were excellent leaning parts, they leaned my A/F ratio, they leaned my power and they leaned my wallet.

AMS MIKE, why would one need O2sensors? OEM sensors fit fine in Crawford Cats. Thanks

Dovla, I was mainly after power increase, which I believe has occurred. The slight sound increase was a bonus. My only other mod to date has been the ubiquitous Z-tube.

Smell increase is, of course, extremely important to me, when modding my vehicle. I haven't noticed much change with these cats; however, if I leave my hockey equipment in the trunk, I find I am able to achieve the desired effect.
