I installed the z-tube and k&n combo in my 05' 6mt a couple of months ago. What I did notice is that: 1) the car definitely lost some low-end torque. The flip side to this is that above 4500rpm it pulled like there was no tomorrow ( and sounded sweet doing it ) and 2) Gas mileage definitely took a hit.

I can only reason that with both the k&n and z-tube all the air the engine was taking in caused the ECM to throw more fuel at it (causing a rich condition). I recently switched back to the oem paper filter (kept the z-tube). My mileage is back up, still sounds pretty sweet and torque is definitely back. With the z-tube and k&n my car actually felt a little sluggish down low.

I thought people said that their milage is better. Btw, did you reset your ecu to adapt to the change?

I installed the z-tube a few weeks ago (no K&N, I figured I would wait until the stock filter needed replacing and spent the money on some clear corners).

I noticed a sound difference but only at WOT. The sound of the car has definitely improved. In addition, according to my nav computer my gas mileage has increased from about 17.2 MPG to about 17.7 MPG (I know, I just can't keep my foot out of the throttle). This is based on approximatey 3 tanks of gas post install. I reset the nav computer each tank both before and after.

Ok, now I am confused! This thread is not giving me any confidence in the Z-tube/K&N. I just ordered this so its on its way. I am not looking for power, just want to increase/deepen my exhaust note a little more. Now I already have crawford high flows and Borla TD. I am hearing in this thread that there was no sound change and a loss of low end torque????? Come on guys, I need some positive replys to make me want to put this on my car. Bottom line is, will my exhaust get any deeper, and will I lose any low end torque wit the Z-tube/K&N???

if you guys want sound you should go with JWT popcharger or a CAI setup. the open element combined with velocity stack will amplify the sound. if you just want higher airflow, the Ztube and panel filter will suffice.

I did not lose any low end with my z-tube. It won't deepen your exhaust sound it just provides better induction noise. Eventually I will probably go with a Stillen intake but if sound is what you are looking for everyone raves about the sound from a popcharger.

I just have the z-tube (no k&n filter) and noticed a slightly increased sound in the higher rpms. Nothing to put a smile on my face though. However, my g/f instantly asked "why does your car sound louder and meaner?" which put a smile on my face!

Hey guys, I think I can shed some light on this...

I have an 05AT and the z-tube, power duct mod makes a significant diff in sound on my car. But, my friend down the street has an 05 6mt and the same exact mod made very little if any diff in sound on his car. I guess it has to do with the manifold differences between the AT and the 6mt motors.

If you have the 05 6mt then I think you should check out the Motordyne MREV mod. It's no good for my 05AT. If you go that route then your ztube/K&N could still be useful.

I removed the "Power Duct," as well. Didn't notice anything different having done that. So, it's back on.
^+1, did you really expect huge gains?

same thing on my review https://g35driver.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79124. maybe for Pre-05 it was a blast but for 05+ 6MT I haven't seen much good comments or any big difference regarding sound or power. Honestly I could've saved that money and use if for something else.

i haven't yet installed any type of intake, but i do have experience with the jwt pop charger on my 4th gen maxima. it did feel like a drop in low end power, especially in first gear. in fact for a good week or two i was a bit concerned. however, on the drag strip and highway it really does allow the car to breath a lot better. on top end it really stretches out.

I did the Pop-Charger which saw a drop in my 0-60 times, and dynos which seemed to support a loss.

I went back to the K&N panel, and kept the Z-Tube.
