Intial observations and questions

Okay, after two days...

1) Wow!

2) WOW.

3) Holy ****

4) While driving, I found a new drivers position that is more comfortable, and wanted to save it so I pressed SET, then 1 for a few seconds. But it didnt save the next time I got in the car. Must I save this setting only when in Park??

5) Just noticed the front lower grills are different ! - I assume this due to to adapative cruise control??? ... or am I missing a piece of trim !!

6) When the outside temp dropped from 4C to 3C, an "ICY" alert went one. Found that odd as it has nothng to do with road condtions. I think I saw a way to defeat that alert - will have to play with that one.

7) Do drivers typically keep the headlight switch in AUTO at all times?

8) Is there a setting, for CANADIAN drivers, to turn the metric off on the LCD dash display? I really dont want to see L/KM and when my brain can only process MPG!

Tx

1. Congrats

2. CONGRATS

3. HOLY **** CONGRATS!

4. Yes, you can only save seat positions while the car is in Park.

5. Yup, that's the adaptive cruise control

6. the Icy alert shows up when temp outside is or at around freezing degrees... Has nothing to do with road conditions...

7. I personally don't use Auto for my headlights - just on and off as needed.

8. Ask one of the Canucks....

Congrats again!

Yes, there is a "Unit" submenu under the "Display" menu that will allow you to choose between MPG or L/100KM.

Remember though, you can only have temperature in C + L/100km, OR temperature in F + mpg.

Drives me nuts.

I can only understand degrees C, and mpg. There is no way to use a mix of metric and US.

So I'm just curious: for Canadian cars, if you select MPG, is it per US gallon or per Imperial gallon? (IIRC, Canada--at least Nova Scotia the last time I was there--is Imperial gallons).

Thanks

I am guessing that it is US gallons.

They probably think most (if not all) Canadians would use L/100km anyway.

That way they have a system that would work for both US and Canadian markets. (with just a different default for each)

I too would assume the computer is always based on US gallons, and you are correct- that makes comparisons between drivers easier, regardless of where they live.

No one really uses Imperial gallons anymore in terms of MPG calculation. So its a choice of L/100km which no one intuitively understands, or MPG based on a US gallon. One cannot even use a constant conversion factor, as these are two measurements are intersecting curves - as MPG goes up, L/KM goes down.

I dont mind the celcius temparature too much as I am used to it, and even distances (like distance to empty) is okay in KM, its really just the fuel consumptiion rate that is annoying.

So I think I am going to leave it on metric, and just make a mental note that under 10 L/100 KM is "good mileage" !! There problem solved. I did not buy this care to save on gas anyway!

If I want more details, ie to troubleshoot problems, I could convert the display, or look it up values as follows:

L/100KM to MPG (US)
6.0 = 39.14
6.5 = 36.13
7.0 = 33.55
7.5 = 31.31
8.0 = 29.36
8.5 = 27.63
9.0 = 26.09
9.5 = 24.72
10.0 = 23.48
10.5 = 22.37
11.0 = 21.35
11.5 = 20.42
12.0 = 19.57
12.5 = 18.79
13.0 = 18.07
13.5 = 17.40
14.0 = 16.77
14.5 = 16.20
15.0 = 15.66
15.5 = 15.15
16.0 = 14.68
16.5 = 14.23
17.0 = 13.81
17.5 = 13.42
18.0 = 13.05

That freaked me out one early morning last month when it was something like 36 F here in northern California. I've only seen it once and I hope to never see it again!

Congrats on the new G!
