2/3rd of the car being re-painted - how should I maintain?
I've had my car for less than 5 months, but several incidents have lead me to needing some significant paint work done. The first incident occurred 2 weeks after purchase; someone keyed the entire length of the passenger side of the car (all 3 panels) and again, 2 days ago the automatic garage door in my apartment complex screwed up and came down on my roof, leaving a nice wake of scratches.
I talked to the body shop that the dealership uses, who said that even though the keying is a single long scratch, they would do it right, meaning they would disassemble the door and quarter panels according to manufacturers spec, and blend the colors into the adjacent panels (hood, roof, etc) - essentially re-painting about 2/3rds of the entire car.
I'm obviously quite nervous about this for several reasons; firstly I'm hoping that the car will be just as solid after essentially being taken apart and put back together, and that the paint will match. It's black, so it wouldn't be as obvious as silver, but the guy at the shop said Infiniti black uses 4 types of additives to get the tone so it still requires blending.
Anyhow, my car has the typical weak Infiniti paint swirl marks, but I'd like to start a routine maintenance to keep it sharp. How ridiculous will my car look with half brand-new paint and half swirl marks? And will non-OEM paint end up being less resistant to scratches, essentially forcing me to put more effort into the unpainted areas to keep it matching?
If anyone has had experience with getting their car re-painted, please let me know what your experience was like. Thanks!
