i was looking up ring flashes yesterday. do you need an external flash before you have a ring flash? It looks like the ring flash ties into the external flash from the pictures i saw.

if you purchase a traditional ring flash, like the ABR800, then no. however, such ring flashes do need an external power supply (you can make your own for fairly cheap, but it's a PITA to lug around).

ring flash adapters such as the ray flash or orbis adapters do require a hotshoe flash, such as the 580ex ii. these are useful because they don't require any power as they contain no electrical components. the ray flash is currently priced at $300. rumors say that the orbis will be introduced at a price of $160 and will later be sold at $200. the ray flash is extremely efficient as it only loses one stop. i'm still waiting for the orbis to be released and for reviews to be written. if it isn't up to par with the ray flash, then i'm just going to go with that.

what are you looking up ring flashes for? O.o

the last time i washed my car was the day before the socal bbq meet. i've only washed my car 4 times in 2008. i do, however, use a california duster on my car.

it just so happens that my car was clean at the last meet. ask any of the ch gtg guys. my car was DIRTY at every one of the meets. the last time i washed my car prior to the bbq wash was for extreme autofest san diego.
