mt7rabbit,

Are you the organizer of an Austin G club? Or is this informal? Anyway, I live in Austin and would like to meet with other G owners. Until now (did a search) it seems there is no G anything in Austin.

Thanks.

I'm down to meet as I've said before. Unfortunately someone may need to email me brian (at) brianv.net because sometimes I go weeks without coming to the forums. Also, I'm really busy on weekends, but I'd love to come out and hang out if I'm free.

There is no G club that i know of, the meets I organized were imformal. We could set up something formal...got any suggestions? It will probably be hard to get people together around the holidays, but after the new year it should pick up again. We should plan something for around January 12th or so.

I don't think we need a formal G club but perhaps that would be cool. It looks like there are enough owners locally...

Organizing it formally is pretty easy. A club website helps as a general place to exchange info and set dates that everyone can check in on, communicate, etc. The benefits would be things like group buys, track days (Austin Driveway), garage days, etc... things that are improved by the power of numbers. I organized a motorcycle club that became successful enough that the local dealer gave the club discounts and dedicated service time for mods and dealer hosted parties. A smart dealer quickly sees the benefits of a local, active club. We could have organized meets once a month or just random get-togethers on agreed dates.

I'd support and help with either a full blown club or nothing at all. I'd just like to meet some other G owners and exchange ideas while being able to view the mods others have done to their cars. But taking it a step further could benefit everyone involved more than that.

We can talk more about it in January. PM me with the date... I'm good with the 12th.

I've developed proabably a "better than just a customer" relationship with Allen Klaus, the GM at Austin Infiniti. But then, maybe he's just a really cool guy and treats everyone that way. Either way, I have no problem asking for support but if I were him, I'd want to see some effort on our part and some legitamacy before handing out a list of G owners in the area. Besides, he probably can't do that without the written permission of each owner.

The flip side would be to provide the dealership with info about the club and let them pass it out to prospective buyers and new owners. Sometimes that extra level of support sells cars. It sure works for Harley-Davidson... they have created a cult over many years of supporting the "club".

We need to get organized, if that's what we want to do. It doesn't take big numbers. A few of us do it and the rest will follow. 20 is a nice number for a club. I've been involved in smaller clubs that were fun and successful. It just takes a little participation.

I'd be willing to setup an Austin G club forum/web site, however, in my past experience, people just don't frequent them enough and they just die. I think for now, sticking to this forum is better. We could ask the mods if they could make a Texas subsection since majority of "South" is TX (on this forum). Hell, they've split California up between North and South, for sure Texas deserves it's own section since it is the best state and all.

Anyways, updating the list:

AUSTIN:
1. dRu (session_road86) Austin, TX

I like the idea of a formal club, (it's not necessary but it would be good) but to not waste time on anyone’s dime we should have a minimum number of people who are willing to commit to having a formal club, and help with the regular upkeep necessary. We have over 20 people in that list, but only about 1/2 is active. So in order to start a successful club I think a good number of 8 committed people should do the trick. We don't want to start this just to let it die out a few weeks later.

So far it looks like BrianV, The_Scooch, and I (mt7rabbit) are all for creating an Austin club. Anyone else willing to take the time and keep at it?
Feel free to add or remove yourself from the list.

Yeah definitely count me in, but do understand that I can't make every event, etc, but I'd participate in a mailing list of forum if it remained active. I'm out of town on probably a third of my weekends, but if I'm in town and don't have any strong commitments, I'm down to meet/do activities/etc.

it's ok if you can't make it to all the events, it would be hard for anyone to make it to all the events and unrealistic. As long as you keep up the effort to keep the club going thats all we need.

I'm in. I'm usually around on weekends and would also like to organize some group events like track days, garage days (DIY clinics) etc.
