Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

Neffster and Demonteverde won because they were the only ones who raced. Everyone else lost because they drank beer and watched. Talk about an adrenalin rush! I get amped just thinking about it... The best time of the night was 14.9 & 98.5 mph. Neither one of us was getting good traction off the line, and my reaction times were pathetically slow, but the NA mods really kicked in BIG TIME.

OK Pearl, no flames please about the times...

Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

Who ran the 14.9?
What were the other times?
How many runs did both of you get in???

I need the specifics man...I expected those times since both of your were first timers...you'll get it down and someday be able to hang with my 5AT

Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

Here's the low down:
We each did 2 runs. The first run we were spaced too far apart to race each other, but we quickly learned the routine.

My first run: (with VDC on, DOH) SLIP SLIP SLIP GO...

R/T...1.154
60'...2.522
330...6.614
1/8...9.854 MPH...76.72
1000...12.604
1/4...14.919 MPH...97.56

My second run against Demonteverde: (NO VDC, but launched so high that I pinged the rev limiter 6 or 8 times in first gear while my rear wheels were bouncing like Jordan was dribbling a basket ball)...

Me...
R/T...0.896
60'...2.512
330...6.778
1/8...10.009 MPH...77.09
1000...12.735
1/4...15.027 MPH...98.54

I was so pissed because I actually hit my breaks BEFORE passing the little sign. I jokingly said it was because I was waiting for Ian, but the truth is, it was first time jitters and poor lighting at the end of the track. At 100 mph in the dark your headlights aren't worth a ****. With a little more self control (reads not hitting the breaks) I'm pretty sure I would have been at high 14's and just at/over 100mph. Maybe next time.

Ian...
R/T...0.662
60'...2.455
330...6.697
1/8...10.138 MPH...73.26
1000...13.027
1/4...15.436 MPH...92.89

You can see how Ian had the jump and almost 1 full car length on me by the 1/8 mile, but the mods kicked in once I got my car under control. Keep in mind that Ian was 100% bone stock and also a first timer (like me).

Ian will have to tell you about his first run, as I don't have the slip. If I ever figure out the right way to launch, I'll gladly go up against your automatic, but last night everyone was telling me how the auto's have the advantage against the manuals unless the driver is experienced.

Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

not bad at all...I'd assume your mods help the most in 3rd gear and higher and ur stats compared to mine tend to show that...i did a short comparison with my times which unfortunatly were only 1/8th mile
my three times were...
9.578 @ 75.75mph
9.581 @ 76.10mph
9.701 @ 74.63mph (with passenger and slight slippage)

I will compare your best to my best
--ME--
RT: 0.766
60ft: 2.361
330ft: 6.334
1/8th: 9.578 @ 75.75

--YOU--
RT: 1.154
60ft: 2.522
330ft: 6.614
1/8th: 9.854 @ 76.72

OK Reaction time is just for bragging and doesnt affect your time so we throw that away...

now at 60ft I have you by 0.161 but ur just starting to stick so at 330ft we should both be at speed so I will time it from here. At 330ft I have you by 0.280 then at 1/8 i only have u by 0.276 and your 1mph faster, but I dont think you had to shift in that short time so Im thinking I would gain a couple more tenths of a seconds during ur 3rd to 4th shift, and I only say that cause 14.65 seems way to slow for a 5AT

Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

Haha...I was happy to get the jump on you, neff. But the happiness was short lived once I saw you pull on me while I was riding third all the way to red line. Did you hit fourth when we were side by side or when u passed me?

Lighting was so bad at the end of the track, that I was still gunning it hard and didn't even see the little "this is the end" sign at the side. Had to slam on the brakes and do a tight turn otherwise I would have ended up in the forest.

I had allot of fun despite the disasterous first run I had (15.9 - nothing but spinning wheels at 3k clutch drop). At least I know what to expect and what to do for next time (have to learn how to feather out clutch during launch). What a rush of adrenaline...

Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

dabomb,
The only thing your comparison doesn't take into consideration is that in first gear I was bouncing off of the rev limiter like crazy (or had on VDC and was having the computer cut out the input from the throttle). In order to get this to stop I had to shift to 2nd gear very early and I was hardly moving. My mods come on at anything over 2000rpm and they will show WAY BEFORE 3rd gear (2nd gear is my favorite of all actually). If I would have had more control of my car at the beginning, I would have done MUCH better. I will probably go back and try doing street starts, where I only rev the engine to ~1000 rpm and then slip the clutch slightly. I know that I accelerate faster in first on the street, and this would equate to slightly faster times and even higher final mph.

I think I should have been born a red neck, cause this drag racing is "funner then heck". How's that for practicing?

Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

I had the same prob. Launched way too hard and sat at the line doing a burnout with so much wheel hop it felt like I was going over a couple dozen sets of railroad tracks. This led to dabomb in his automatic smoking me. Next time I'm gonna do the street start.

Thats great! you guys seem like you had an awesome time. Wish I could have gone, but I was racing porsches( will post pics later in week). I won't flame, that isn't a bad time, you just have to get used to it. It sometimes takes me till the last few runs to get a good time.

Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

Josh,
What do you consider a good time (I don't mean a night at a strip club, but good drag strip time with the G)? What is your average time (estimated is fine) and what was your best ever (I'll want to see the slip )?

Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

the slip, my girls don't wear slips. Average in the G for me has been 14.3, but my best was a 13.899. The track was dry, but it was cool out and I just threw the shifts perfect. I know my friend "that orange Z with the gold Volks at the Z-fest" he took that car to the track STOCK and ran a 13.7, but he is an amazing driver.

Re: Bithlo Thread by Popular Demand

uhhh, don't rev the engine when lauching past 1500, yeah...when shifting you shouldn't be on the accelerator, you can even shift the car without pressing in the clutch, i will show you guys that trick and when you are accelerating, press that pedal to the floor!!!! don't step on the brakes at the end neff and go at the last yellow light instead of the green. Oh, and VDC off of course.

and there is better traction on the left side if you fall into this little lane, during the day you can see it.
