FHP using laser?

I was on a late night cruise last night when my radar detector started wailing an alert that I was being hit with laser. I was rounding a ramp from 520 to 50 east when I noticed Ka band was being used in the area. Being alerted that radar was in the area I started scanning the medians and road sides but couldn't see anything. I was in a rural area so I knew it wasn't a false echo.

Soon after hitting the straight away on 50, LASER filled my rd display along with a loud alarm. I slowly passed a group of about six patrol units made up of FHP and locals sitting completely in the dark in the median. Luckily I was in a cruising mood because I usually whip through that ramp to get a G rush and to get up to speed to merge into 50.

I just got the radar detector a couple of weeks ago and wanted to know if someone could verify laser is used in the Orlando area. That was the first time it picked up on laser and know it's not a commonly used, at least from what I've read and experienced. I wasn't speeding but luckily the Ka band was being used as well, otherwise I might have picked up speed before I was hit by the laser. From what I understand if you detect laser your being targeted directly so it's too late by then.

Re: FHP using laser?

laser is a lot more common now, I stay in a somewhat rural part of georgia and they use it out here so it really wouldn't suprise me that they use it in orlando.

Re: FHP using laser?

The reason I see Laser being used more is its getting more widespread usage which means the costs associated with it are also dropping it, giving iit greater penetration.

Interesting when I was at Sound Advice last week, some guy in an M3 came in asking for some type of radar which actually jams laser. I didn't know such a thing was even possible.

Re: FHP using laser?

I had considered getting this when I bought my detector, but held off until I had more info. I've seen mixed reviews of the "jamming" effectiveness of these devices. Anybody using something similar that can shed light on them?

Re: FHP using laser?

I got my last ticket in my honda on 408 East bound just after 436. It was by FHP and the cop tagged me with laser. He said I was doing 70 in a 55, but it was rush hour and I might have been doing 65. Anyway, he dropped the numbers on the ticket to 60-ish and I took the online drivers course.

FHP DEFINITELY USES LASER.

Re: FHP using laser?

Yes FHP uses Laser. Laser is ALOT harder to argue in court because it has pinpoint accuracy, so generally if you are hit with it, you are toast.

As far as laser jammers, NOT! We had a HUGE open discussion about this in my laser certification class. It is simply not going to happen. You cannot jam laser with a tiny little license plate frame or any other type of miniscule microchip particle beam refractor blah blah. A laser beam is a tiny tiny tiny beam and as long as an LEO can get one part of your car with it, you are done. Laser and Radar jammers are a complete scam, period. Please beware of what you get sucked into. If anyone out there would like to prove me wrong, I patrol West Broward and would love bring out the laser AND radar guns to show you.

Just helpin fellow G35 owners out...instead of droppin the cash on these nonsense jammers, just do the speed limit and drop the cash into some performance parts or some nice IForged Billets.... A nice set of those will get you off if I stop you...LOL....

Re: FHP using laser?

LOL Super...

I understand what ur saying with Laser...the cop would actually have to shoot the jammer for the jammer to work. But what about the radar...is the case the same or do those actually work? im not going to buy one but just wondering cause Iv heard people say they do and if i cop's radar was jammed he can still pull u over and right u a ticket for having the jammer plus one for speeding because "cops have a trained eye for speed"

Maybe this isnt the case in florida but my friend got a ticket in missouri from a cop who wasnt even radaring. He had to write it for the cheapest speeding ticket, but it held up in court.

Also, Iv heard something about a special paint that absorbs radar and laser...have u heard of this and would it work?

Re: FHP using laser?

You've heard about the TOP SECRET government unacknowledged radar absorbing stealth paint? The men in black suites are on their way to your apartment to kill you as I type. Nice knowing you kid...

Re: FHP using laser?

I don't think a cop just suspecting you of speeding would hold up in court. The cop that busted your friend must have used something in court as a reference, even if it was his own speedo when chasing him. Otherwise, why spend money on expensive laser when you could have an officer standing on the side of the road guessing speeds?

Does laser have a weakness? How are lawyers beating laser tickets? I don't want to find out first hand, just curious.

Re: FHP using laser?

yeah, if only Neff knew what i know...oh wait i wasnt suppose to say that...

My roommate is a PHD student in Creol which is the department of lasers and optics...i asked him about this...he confirmed the uselessness of a "laser jammer" but agreed a paint could be made to deflect or absorb the laser signal. but said that there might be anti-glare or other things on the windows that would send the laser back so the paint could be useless too if this is the case and the cop is smart enough to shoot the window

Re: FHP using laser?

LOL! Lawyers are not "beating" laser tickets, they are simply pleading "change of plea" at the hearings, which means you can or cannot be adjudicated depending on your record. The ONLY way a laser ticket can be beaten is if the laser operator fails to log the laser unit into his daily log. Other than that, a lawyer cannot beat a laser ticket.

I surely hope all of you out there who use ticket attorneys do not think that the ticket was "beaten" in court. All they do is represent you and get you a "withheld adjudication" which means you are and arent guilty, its a median. You still pay a fine, it still shows on your record, but you just don't get points, which is what they always guarantee, NO POINTS. They say nothing about keeping your record clean, they only keep it "points free."

Although the funny thing is, that if you went into court and did the same thing, 9 times out of 10 you would be guilty, i think its awkward, although not proven.

Re: FHP using laser?

In Missouri, getting a lawyer gets it off ur record too...they get it reduced to a Nonmoving violation (A.K.A parking ticket) and u get no points and nothing on ur record that may cause insurance to go up or even things that a cop may see next time ur pulled over...it was awesome except it sucks that u have to get a lawyer to get things like that to happen. All they do is say, "I want it reduced" to the Assistant DA and its done...why cant I go and say that and keep my $100 lawyer fee for something useful
