mrev2 installed - more help please

so I just picked up my mrev2 from Tony today, and also rented a inch-lb torque wrench, torqued like the instructions said..... 40, then 80, then 100... when i was doing 100, i got to bolt #3 and heard a snap.....

I think i busted it, feels like I did, but I didn't try to pull it out yet. I am going to give Tony a call tomorrow and ask for some help.

In the mean time I did find:
https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-forced-induction/81947-mrev-mod-fiasco-i-stripped-4-5-threads-my-manifold-collector.html

anyone around here have experience with this problem?

im pretty much crapping in my pants right now.... can anyone help me out? tell me what i can do or come by and lend me a hand?

this is probably one of the worse nights i have ever had....

well theres always a way out if you did.. its a lot of trouble tho.. u drill a hole thru the bolt without damaging the threads, then you use a reverse drill bit and take it out.

+1. Those screw extractorsd work great. You can get them at Autozone, pepboys etc.

are you sure you have an inch lb torque wrench? 100 inch lbs is about 8 ft lbs (12 inch lbs=1 ft lb). No bolt head should snap with that little torque.

at this point, should i try and take the bolt out?

the thing is, i'm not sure if the bolt snapped but i feel like it did because when apply little force, the screw just keeps moving.

You probably did just snap it. When I was installing my Kinetix plenum I snapped two of the bolts. I had to take the whole thing off and I was able to use some pliers to back the bolt out. Then I just went to the closest Nissan dealer and picked up some extra bolts. Hope this helps.

Good Luck,

Ray

Thanks Ray!

I just came from Nissan in Alhambra, they didnt have those bolts in stock so I ordered them. Won't be in till Wednesday, but in the mean time, I have to get the broken part out. I'm going to take the other screws off, take off the lower collector and see if there is enough bolt left for me to use pliers. I hope that there is.... if not, I'll have to do what imalazee/GP1 said...

Okay, I got the broken piece out with some pliers....

I tried to hand tread a bolt down that hole and its a little tough to get it down. I didn't try with a wrench yet, but does anyone know if snapping a bolt like that could have damage the threads?

It was 90 inch pounds for my MREV+ for my '05, make sure you are not tightening too much...

I got to 90 inch pound, but the directions from MotorDyne said to go up to 100. So I was trying to get it to 100 but then it snapped =/

you may have just snapped it, but make sure you don't cross thread it as that would make it a lot more complicated. a broken stud can just be replaced, and cross threaded one can mean a lot of problems

Okay, so the threads turned out okay and I got new bolts from Nissan. I installed the mrev2 with no problems until I started the car.

Torqued the lower collector to about 85 in-lb and the upper plenum to about 52 in-lb. All vac hoses are connected.

Problem: I'm able to start the car after disconnecting the battery and stepping on the brake (ecu resets). Car starts and runs fun/normal. The problem is when I turn the car off and start it back up. Car starts up the immediately shuts off.

My friend and I checked all the hoses and they're all in.... we're just confused at why the car starts up and runs fine after disconnecting the battery but DIES when I try to start again.

If there was a leak the idle would be all rough right? After starting up the car it felt fine and I drove it for about 20-30 mins. I got home, shut the car off, and tried to start it back up..... no bueno

any advice besides doing all the different resets/learning procedures? we're going to try and retorque the bolts after the engine cools down a little bit

could it be that there is no default idle speed set in the ECM?

http://6mt.net/forum/showthread.php?...t=engine+stall

I also remembered that I did not disconnect the battery when I disconnected the throttle body connector. Could that have messed things up?

oh one more thing..... hopefully it'll fix the problem, but instead of torqueing the outer plenum bolts (#7-18) to 100 in-lb, i stopped at 52 in-lb. going to wait for the engine to cool over night then re-torque those suckers to 90 in-lb or something.

you guys think that would be the cause of the car not starting?
