Eric, can you do brake and light inspections for the DMV? How about smog hookups? I need to get a car (totally legal, just getting salvaged) inspected asap. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and let me know what needs to be done to the bike, and I'll let you know if I can help.

Def go with Iridium spark plugs (NGK are great). Make sure they're properly gapped.

Oil change for sure; make sure you know if he wants to run dino or synthetic, what the proper weight is, and don't use any of the friction-reducing crap for cars; Motul and Repsol are popular. Definitely should replace the filter as well. Just fill it up, run for a few minutes, then fill back up to the proper level (usually read the oil level glass with the bike standing straight up, but NOT on the rear stand).

New chain, he should do new sprockets as well at the same time, as worn sprockets destroy new chains. With that, you need master link removal tool, and the one to press the new one in. Also need a rear stand so you can get the weight off the rear end. You'll need proper chain wax/lube (not WD40) to lightly grease up the change; tell your buddy to clean it every 4-500 miles with kerosene, when the chain is warm, then re-apply the wax.

New air filter would be good if it hasn't been done in awhile. Also, just make sure the idle speed isn't funky (they can get outta wack sometimes). Check throttle and clutch cables for tautness, and tighten if necessary. Besides that, go over all the bolts on the frame to make sure none are loose. Remember, these bikes are almost all aluminum, so don't over-tighten ****!

Check the tires to make sure they don't have any rot, and aren't showing the belts in the middle (or no tread left). If this is the case, bitchslap your friend, and send him off to get new tires.

Last important thing I can think of is to check the brakes. They should be nice and firm, and the brake fluid should be pretty clear. If it's not, the system should be flushed and vacuum bled (bleeder screws are in both calipers and the MC for the front).

That's what I can think of for now; this is pretty important ****, esp. if the bike hasn't been maintained in awhile. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.
