was the "lifted section" of the freeway going over a bridge? if so, which is what i am assuming...its the settlement of the soil underneath the bridge. If the soil isn't consolidated properly for a certain amount of weight and time, you could get quite a significant amount of settlement which would cause a section of the to be lowered. Sorry, its my civil engineering mind at work...i didn't design that and i don't work for caltrans, so don't blame me.

There's quite a few areas like that in the OC. Especially on the 57 freeway.

Also watch out for that bump on the 405 S --> 55 S freeway ramp. There is a dip right before the ramp merge onto 73. If you are going about 85mph without VDC, you'll have one hell of a nasty surprise when you hit that bump.

405S between the 605 and the 22 at 8-9am and 405N between the 22 and the 605N ramp at 5-6pm.

The sun glares off the freeway and due to all the construction that's going on, all the lines are painted weird. Pretty dangerous and everyone goes extra slow. I've come close to being hit several times. CalTrans really needs to put in the Botts-Dots there.

Anyone know if there's a place to complain to CalTrans?

EDIT: Found out how to report problems:

Here's the question i wrote...

Below is what you submitted to tcpubinf@dot.ca.gov on Monday, October 8, 2007 at 0951

question: Due to the construction on the 405 South between the 605 and the 22 Freeways, the lane markers on the freeway are not straight and are hard to see during the morning hours as glare from the road renders the lines useless. When will the construction be finished and in the meantime, there needs to be some sort of markers to show the lanes clearly. Possibly road flags or temporary Botts-Dots? I'm a frequent traveller on this section of road and I have been almost hit by other cars multiple times. I feel it is only a matter of time before something more serious happens. Thank you for your time and hope to hear from your office in a timely manner.
You guys on the 22 should try this too. I'll report any responses (if i get any) i hear from CalTrans.

I was just on that freeway yesterday around westminster. I didn't notice the exit I was near ( unfamiliar territory ), but I did notice the sign that said bump. The only thing that I came across between the bump sign and my exit (knott ave) was a huge metal plate across all lanes. Hopefully this was a fix to your guy's rim eating concrete slab.

The placement of the "BUMP" caution sign was ridiculous. It was approximately a foot in front of the actual bump.
I had plan on taking a picture of the sign/bump on the way to work this morning, but apparently they are now fixed?!?! The strip of temporary patch is gone and the sign removed. While the affected section no longer poses as an immediate hazard, it is still far from adequate IMHO. I was still able to feel a sharp jab to the fronts @ only 55 mph. Again low-profile tire folks should trait with some caution when passing through.

Sounds like a different section you're describing.

Wow... i actually got a response this morning from Cal Trans. They actually answer questions on their website!

Here's what i got:

as early as tonight, Friday, October 12 and is expected to be completed
within two weeks time.
And my original question:
