hey sorry about your car. but that is bull that it is totalled i fix cars that are more f-ed up then that everyday. someone is making out on that deal. all it needs is a rear body and a bumper when they pull the unibody everything will come back out all they should have to paint is the two quarters bumper rearbody and deck lid.

unibody damage is unibody damage.

The insurance company contracted two different independant firms to do a market analysis on the car. The unibody damage + repairs totalled out to more than the market value of the car.

Unibody damage can be repaired, but not disguised; it'll always show, and the car now has accident history.

i got into an accident about 2 months ago and it looked significantly worse than yours, and they decided to fix it and estimated the damage to be around 13k so im pretty confused as to how you got yours totaled, heres a link to the pictures of the accident LINK

It's pretty difficult to get a car totalled out. There has to be conclusive evidence that the car's value has diminished so much that the diminished value of the car + repairs is more than 80% of what the car is worth. (the % varies by carrier).

My case was escalated 5 times before I finally worked my way up high enough to get a person with the capability to total out a car.

The original adjuster and damage adjuster tried to tell me that my car's value wouldn't drop at all because the damage would all be repaired.

The 2nd adjuster tried to tell me that the unibody was bent, but that after the repairs, it would be undectectable.

The body shop, at this point, told me that they can fix it, but it would still be evident if you looked, that it was fixed.

As long as you can PROVE diminished value, the insurance company is liable for it. It is pretty difficult to prove diminished value; I used to work at a law firm that exclusively worked with traffic incidents.

Let me know if you need any help

A Unibody car has a frame, it's just integral with the body structure. Trucks and large SUV's and such do have a totally independent "frame" upon which the vehicle body sits, true though.

Wow..

Your situation is a perfect example of how far the insurance companies will go to not pay if they can get out of it. Glad it worked out for you.

i know this is old but that is bull **** total. i used to be a total loss appraiser for mercury insurance for a few years. that is what we call a BS total, they dont really want to fix it because its too much work so they'll just total your car.... we used to do this all the time, because management loved to total cars vs fixing them its so much easier...

sucks man.
