Every game does matter whatchu talkin about. Maybe not in the sense of making to to the playoff but sure as hell does when you're playing in the conference finals and the Finals, you WANT home court. So yes every game DOES matter!

QFT!

Its the complacent mindset that a team can play at 80% just to get by that ends up disappointed in the playoffs. The Lakers are a team that has battled this phenomenon in the past--losing focus and not being able to bring it every game when it mattered. Meanwhile, all you hear are the pundits and commentators wondering which Lakers team will show up on a given night.

The Lakers need to play like they are the reigning champions, and they need to defend that championship with everything they've got. The way I see it, the Lakers DO have something to prove. They got a quasi-Cinderella Orlando Magic team in last season's Finals who wouldn't have stood a chance against a healthy Boston team, kind of how Boston completely embarrassed the Lakers the season before last. The Lakers need to dominate this season, take home court advantage, and if all the stars align, take out Boston in the Finals this season.

It was hard for me to be a Lakers fan in New Jersey (where I lived for the last 27 years) in the '08 Finals, when every bar I went to had each soul there rooting against the Lakers. It was much easier in '09, since LA actually won it all.

Like gtrefever said (and as I expect of the Yankees..again, being an NJ native...don't ask why or how I like the Lakers. I always just have) I expect the Lakers and Yanks and Giants to beat everyone they play. It won't happen, but dammit I want them to be playing like they are the best! Whatever the Lakers did in their loss to Dallas...there is simply no excuse for getting handled like that.
