need a solid opinion on a diagnosis :x

ok i will try and keep this as short as possible while giving the most detail, basically my engines been running lean for a while, about 8 months ago my engine was burning oil a lot and it just sort of went away on its own i don't really know why, anyway i switched to synthetic and noticed my cars been burning oil much more frequently, changed the oil at 78 its 82 next change at 84 and ive gone through 3 qts of mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30, im thinking that the oils burning because the synthetic is thinner and my friend whose also a mechanic told me to try 10w-30, ive checked the coolant and found no oil so i figure my head gaskets are fine, but im still burning oil also my engines running very rich, about a month ago i changed my battery and the check engine light taht was originally on because of my test pipes went away, 3 days later it came back on, really not sure why, i have a theory that i might have either a worn oil ring on my piston or i need new valve seals, really have no clue at this point and opinions would be appreciated, also my cars not covered under warranty.

Sounds like you are having the Old oil consumption problem, take it to Infiniti and report this you should be getting a new engine if you still have warranty.

You most likely have oil consumption issues and its something in the short block. Since youre out of warranty you may have to live with it or fork over the money to fix it.

I am no tech but what i have been told about this issue is that it can cause a pre eruption on your piston rings and cause the rings to grind on your block causing nock and maybe you can blow your engine.. So i wouldn't drive hard if i were you.
