I've already experienced that, but I already knew that getting into this state. I was hoping to move to FL but the job market there is terrible.

A dyno!? Who in the hell has time to get pulled over and dynoed? Since I have stock cats and nismo exhaust, I won't worry about it but... I would ask for a print out of my specs then throw on my old Wolf popcharger and have them do another run. Of course, I would share the results here..

I heard it was voluntary.. But they try and trick you to say yes without knowing you could refuse.. I could be wrong...

Yea right, I can see it all now! You get pulled over and they tell you to pop your hood and you're going to say, "With all respect officer, I don't have the time for this bull ****!" I have a CHP pal, I helped last weekend at one of there Toy for Tots events. I'll ask him if this is voluntary....I'll get back to this tomorrow.

Chances are if you have a vehicle '95 and newer they won't pull you over. If they have yellow lights flashing it's not a mandatory stop. However if the lights are red/blue you must comply with whatever they ask you to do. This is the final word unless they change the rules....Gary

Well, if they want to be out wasting time and taxpayer dollars looking for vehicles with HFCs, asking me to pop my hood etc., they can go get a warrant.

I've seriously never seen one in person but that would probably explain why haha. Don't venture to that part of OC much.

Anyone that has recently moved to California from out of state, don't be too scared. They seem pretty rare and my coworkers are saying they are indeed voluntary for "surveying purposes."

i saw one on Wednesday. on Carmenita blvd pass telegraph. They had an early 2000 model ford expedition on there.

How are they with lowered cars? I always see cars lower than mine, but it seems at times I have a hard time getting in and out of places. I remember seeing something like this on the news a few years ago (east coast) where they would pull you over if they had a belief that your car was illegaly modded. They would take a measuring tape and pop open your hood. Everything under there had to be OEM or certified it was legal (sticker) lol. Dunno how serious they are now.

The measuring for height is true. A friend with a Z got that before so he just raised the front(coilovers) then Drove to the nearest police station to get signed off

As far as the ride height issue, that's not too much of an issue. My car has been lowered for a while and yeah, cops will mention it when they pull you over but I've never gotten a ticket for being too low. Just drive like a normal civilian, be respectful, and you can probably talk your way out of petty fix it tickets.

I guess this is where the 400k for the safety fund from prop 30 is being used for.

oh well just hold out until 2013. No more tail pipe test for cars after 2000
