since its just a flush i would think it would cost around $50...

Is this GL-4? I had some problems with my tranny using the GL-5 mobil one synth.

Nissan's spec for this tranny is indeed GL-4. The Shell Spriax is GL-5. However, not all GL-5 fluid's are created equal. Being GL-5 compliant does not imply GL-4 compliance and vice versa.

If you haven't read this THREAD ... do so. It's a good read. Altalad, who works in the oil industry has done all the leg work for us. But to quickly answer your questions, here's a direct quote from him:

"I pondered over the GL-4 and GL-5 spec question as well. I know the service manual says GL-4 spec and 2.9 litres.(actually closer to 4 litres) Where as the local dealer is using the Esso branded, Nissan spec, GX gear oil and it is a GL-5 spec. So I asked the technical engineers with Shell about that GL spec and other things. Basically there is no real difference between GL-4 and GL-5 specs. The real key is looking at the Viscosity @ 40 C with the higher number the better. It roughly gives a indication how "slippery" the oil is at 40 C.

Not that I want to knock Mobile products, as I believe they make excellent products for their customers. But in my opinion their oils were not up to the task for the Nissan transmission. For example:
Mobil 1 synthetic gear lubricant 75W90 has a statement that says "sulphur-phosphorous additive system." In my opinion, again, that's something I wouldn't want around my transmission. Strangely enough, the spec sheet doesn't show whether it passed the copper corrosion test and my contact refused to discuss it! It was none of my business. (unquote) Plus comparing the viscosity @40 C, Spirax had a better number than Mobil's. So, once again, my opinion was Shell Spirax was a better product. (remember, I'm also biased toward Shell Canada products)

The reason for 3 people is the 12 bottles per case (enough for exactly 3 cars). I don't want to be stuck with excess bottles that I do not need. I may do this again in the future, but probably not for a while. We'll see how well it stands up to the track abuse too. If you are really interested ... I say just get them and store them. There's no need to use them right away. At 30-bux it's not a huge investment.

Hey Clint, if nobody jumps in on the last spot by COB I'll take the #9 batch as well. Just to verify you say that you can store the stuff and it won't degrade sitting on the shelf as long as you don't open it right?

Hey Randy, let's work on this. I'm in for some as well. I tried the Redline and I felt some improvement over the stock tranny Nissan fluid but bang for the buck I wasn't 100% impressed. I was thinking about switching over to Royal Purple but if this elixir for the G does the trick I'm in.

 

Oh yes, I forgot to mention this stuff will also works well in the rear DIFFERENTIAL.

 

By the way …

Please DO NOT have the false expectation that this product is a miracle juice that will cure all of your transmission and differential short comings. It may very well do just that, but please be realistic about it. I cannot guarantee you will no longer grind gears, or not engage a particular gear, etc. Much like moving from conventional engine oil to synthetics substitutes … one would not expect to readily observe significant changes, if at all.

Along with the rest of you all, this will be my first experience with this particular product. I however remain optimistic at this point, base on Altalad’s research, which I found to be quite thorough. At the end of the day, I simply wanted something that could stand better to the track abuse than the standard non-synthetic oem fluid and the Shell Spirax S seems to have all the makings for it. I will let you all know how that goes after Buttonwillow in a week. I also encourage the rest of you to give feedbacks here.
